Reality means seeing the good and the bad. Too many here just focus on the bad. Jay

The reality is that CT is slow on the draw which Malloy and businesses leaders acknowledge. That is reality.

The other reality is that CT is as many people "late to the party" regarding recessions. Well, we still haven't gained all the job numbers back from what we lost and when the next recessions hits we will lose more. The jobs we have gained are many low paying jobs. Yes, some people are doing well but lots are either not or on edge.

Facts are a big part of CT's economy is dependent on a hated industry - Wall Street. "those dam investment bankers and their bonuses". Ironically, if the bonuses go down, so do the tax revenues, the spending power, etc. But theres nothing like good ole schadenfreude as our friend Bernie has taught us.

Seems this is a running thread that has positive and negative throughout on various details of the economy in CT.

However, it is a denial of reality to believe that the state is in positive economic shape as we sit here today. Some pockets of good news but the overall climate is a very serious spending vs receipts problem, pension issues and a shedding of quality businesses. That being said, it would seem that with some changes and a little bit of tough love on the budget, the state's natural competitive advantages should get it back on track.

I agree with that, and would add that we need an attitude change in our government, particularly the General Assembly. A real commitment to address our problems and truly welcome employers would go a long way in restoring credibility. Without credibility, there is no trust and we have nothing. OK, sermon over.

The sad reality is that several older people I have talked to are selling their homes because they are scared from the news reports. Many are being advised to move to Florida because they are being told it's so much less expensive. Some seem like they don't really want to go. In a way the problem is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.
