Where does it say they found them? It is beyond me why people are trying to defend guys who shot and murdered a woman in her front yard...for whatever reason. So a suburban woman vigilante with a gun went looking for some angry guys with guns. If these murderers are so innocent--where are they? Why are they hiding (or running) from the cops?
And what is with confronting people because they were honked at? Seriously? Getting honked at is worth a confrontation? This is sane behavior?
Make all the excuses for these guys you want. Unless these fugitives can prove self-defense, they are going down for murder when they are caught. The story keeps changing, but one fact doesn't. They shot and killed a woman in her front yard. Not exactly a heat-of-the-moment killing.
"When they got home, the suspect's car pulled up and opened fire, and Meyers' son returned fire, Steiber said. After the shooting was over, Meyers' son discovered that his mother, who was behind him, had been shot, Steiber said."
Is this one of those 'good guy with a gun' stories? Cause it sounds to me like there are too many idiots armed and angry. All this story says to me is there are many people with no brains and a short fuse who own and carry guns.
No one is defending these guys, but if this story is true, I feel very little empathy for the woman who got shot. I wouldn't feel much empathy for a gang member that went out with a gun looking to "avenge" some rival gang's slight either. In fact, I think I have less empathy for Tammy Meyers than I would for that hypothetical gang member - she was a 40-something mother and chose to involve her son in a dangerous situation rather than following the laws of common sense by refusing to escalate the situation and giving the police a call as soon as she felt unsafe. She certainly did not deserve to die, but she went out of her way to endanger herself and her son. If her son had ended up shooting the other party to the road rage confrontation, the odds are Meyers and her son would be the ones facing charges.
But that's IF the story is true. I frankly find it very far-fetched, and I strongly suspect something happened within the family or that these assailants are not the strangers the Meyers family claims they are. And please, tell me how they could know that this guy had blue or gray eyes when this entire confrontation took place after 11:30 at night and mostly at a distance?
I don't understand this whole road rage thing. The road doesn't belong to ANY ONE of us. It's all of ours to share, just as the rest of the world is. We need to remember to be patient with other drivers and keep our cool at the ones who irritate us. Yelling, screaming, cursing, and even assaulting other drivers because they aren't doing what we want serves no purpose. This poor lady is going to die, and the other vengeful driver is going to prison for the rest of his/her life because of this stupid violent act he/she perpetrated in the heat of the moment. And for what? It's all so senseless.
I agree with everything you stated. But the problem (at least for me) is that the road is filled with so many inconsiderate, aggressive, dangerous drivers who often times force a law-abiding/respectful driver to respond simply to avoid being bullied off the road. Because I drive a lot during the course of each week, I see all types of A-hole drivers out there: tailgaters, speeders, lane-cutters, etc; not to mention the people that steal parking spaces, cut people off, act as if the road belongs solely to them, etc. I agree that it's wise NOT to engage another driver in a conflict, but at some point you have to stand your ground and not allow another driver to act as if your presence on the road is of no significance. It's that whole bully mentality. And when you don't stand up to a bully, the bully often times continues to bully.
But I can see how things can turn out badly: many nuts out on the roads with short fuses and guns, so I get it.

This story is just crazy. Why on earth did she go back out to look for the guy? If she had just stayed home, she'd still be alive. The longer I live the less I understand people.
Yes, the suburban ghetto. Everyone wants to be a badazz. Even grandma. Nice parenting there, getting the son to go on a hunting trip for an angry road-ragey man and his buddies. I'm sick of people using the sympathy card and ignoring awful behavior.
It's starting to sound like a Russ Meyer movie. In fact, just the name, 'Tammy Meyers', sounds like she stepped out of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Super-vixens bent on revenge and all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3JjyvQzSJI
Yes, it did. But again--why don't these guys come forward and tell their side of the story?
Well, for one, because the police department, and the news media have already labeled them as road raging homicidal maniacs who murdered the nice woman who was just minding her own business and giving her daughter a driving lesson.

Because while it's sad that she died, she and her family were clearly no virtuous heroes. They were immature hotheads looking for trouble. And when they ran into other immature hotheads looking for trouble, they found it.

Thanks, I already knew that. My question was merely rhetorical. I wouldn't go as far to say that the woman deserved what she got but no good ever comes from seeking revenge.
First story turns out to be full of holes. I suspect the second story is just as full of holes. I wouldn't believe anything the son or daughter say. Nothing makes any sense.
I'm leaning to this will eventually turn out to be a drug deal gone bad.
