Medicaid works the same way. They have an income limit and even if you are just above the income limit you get whacked paying full price.

Today people on Facebook mentioned $10,000 deductible! !!
What you are neglecting is that many people get a subsidy, so they aren't paying the full freight of their premium anyway.

Meanwhile, lots more people have coverage.

Trump's plan is to repeal Obamacare and toss 20 million people off insurance plans, lovely. Selling insurance across state borders is really done today. Does anyone really think Blue Cross of New York is an entirely different insurance company than Blue Cross of New Jersey?

From Gallup:
Yeah, "they" aren't paying for it, "we" are. And since we have already determined that the cost of the product is way out of control and out of line with inflation, what makes you think "we" can continue to pay for it?

Its an illogical approach that simple math says won't work. Fix the root cause of the pricing problem before giving it away and we probably won't need to give it away except for the most extreme circumstances.

I've had insurance all of my life but I'm going to lose healthcare insurance because it's too expensive, I'm not the only one who this is happening to. Do you really think that is fair?

Sorry, I'm not those other people's slave. Yet another step closer to crash and burn.

I think the system needs to be retooled. I don't think taking away peoples health insurance at this juncture is the answer. This is the first time in US history an administration has addressed the issue outside Medicare/Medicaid. Politicians are always talking about it, but never doing anything. Hopefully, once Hillary is in office and has a Democratic House and Senate they will be able to come up with a more reasonable, cost-effective adjustment strategy.

They can solve the pre-existing condition by allow people who had insurance for 5 years or more to be admitted to the insured pool, then they can pick and choose which insurance companies and what plan. This will encourage young people to join the insured pool early, like Medicare. 10% penalty if you don't join ever year.

Except that one can get a subsidy if one is making over $100,000 a year, since subsidies cover people up to 400% of the poverty rate.
