Wow, I was looking at this thread and saw a post by myself from 2008. I was still married then. I always like those mini smoked sausages that I cook in BBQ sauce. Maybe have some chips, veggie platter, pizza or fried chicken and something sweet.

I don't know what you consider "new and different" (since you didn't mention what you consider "old and usual"). You also didn't mention if you want vegetarian, or vegan, and it makes a huge difference. But here's some vegetarian ideas (with dairy being permissible):

A crudite plate with a few different sour cream/yogurt dips, including 1 mexican spice, 1 onion, 1 bleu cheese.
Hummus with pita or pita chips.
Breaded deep fried zucchini balls, onion rings, and mushrooms with tziziki
Antipasto (without the anchovies) - pickled eggplant, cheese-stuffed hot cherry peppers, halved cherry tomatoes, etc. etc. - served with bruschetta and hot crusty italian bread chunks
Swiss cheese fondue with more crudites and cut square chunks of pumpernickel, rye, and peasant bread
A big red sweet pepper, hollowed out and filled with tabouli - served with pita chips.
Some kind of melon, with the top cut off, the insides cut out and chunked, and the hollowed out "gourd" refilled with some of the chunked melon plus various berries. For a more "adult" version, don't fill it all the way with the fruit, and add some sweet wine so the berries "stew" in the wine for awhile before serving.

Default Super Bowl appetizers

I am looking for some "WOW" appetizers for a super bowl party. I know about the ordinary ones which I actually love and will make. It doesn't necessarily have to be a theme type appetizer like wings for example.

I just want something that is different and a crowd pleaser in your experience. Thanks.

Eggs from Hell

1/4 cup chopped green onions
4 Jalapeno chilies, stemmed, seeded, and minced**
2 tablespoons cilantro
Jalapeno and radish slices for garnish
Cut eggs in half, separate yolks and whites. Set whites aside. Combine yolks, sour cream, and lime juice in big Baggie. Squish around. Add onions, chilies, and cilantro to Baggie. Squish around. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Squish around. Snip small corner of Baggie and fill white halves with yolk mixture. Garnish with Jalapeno and radish.
**For milder flavor, use 4 ounce can of (drained) chopped green Ortega chilies.
