DH wants to start the year off with a fast. To be supportive I will only have liquids....

He also woke up sick (sore throat) this morning, and hung over, so I'm not sure what will happen.

We will have the traditional southern New Years Meal: Collard Greens, Black Eyed Peas, Hog Jowl, Mashed Potatoes, and Corn Bread.

Likely we will order a pizza during the ball game.

Black eyed peas.

Dieting starts tomorrow. I don’t mind the dieting as much as I mind that first weigh in. I hate it! But DH suggested we needed a reset, and I agree.

I am asking myself if I can drink black coffee for the next 6 weeks.

I'm making a buffet of
  • fresh black-eyed peas simmered with loads of ham
  • tri-color cole slaw
  • small veggie tray (carrot, celery, daikon, sugar snaps) with buttermilk ranch
  • ciabatta bread
  • boursin & baby swiss cheeses
  • homemade pesto sauce
  • saltines
  • tangerine and blackberry salad

Sort of healthy.. if I don't eat too much. Definitely eating our colors today.

Pork and Kraut and Schnitz Pie per family tradition along with some extra buttery mashed potatoes to smother that nasty sauerkraut.

We're still in nibble mode here. So many goodies around still.

Sauerkraut will be part of it for us too as I still have some of the Reuben dip left. It was quick to make and is quite tasty. We're eating it on cocktail rye. Good cheeses, cold meats, grapes, chocolates, olives, hummus and pita chips. Pickled eggs in beet juice from Daughter for DH.

Yes, the annual plague made its appearance at our house here earlier this Fall. Think it worked its way through the whole city as every time I went out I heard people coughing and sniffing. It started with the ache all over and then with lowered immune system morphed to head cold, chest cold and then is ending up with sinus problems.

First time in decades I've had it but this is also the first time in many years I wasn't taking Vitamin C and zinc in the Fall. Coincidence? IDK.

Get well soon all you fellow-sufferers.

DH brought home some navel oranges which are unmarked. Wish I knew what they were and I'd recommend them. The taste is unique and they are very juicy.
