I don't think the number of colleges makes much difference but rather the size of the schools and their specialities that would be relevant to Amazon. Greater Toronto only has 4 full universities but one is monstrous U of T with 82,000 FULL-TIME grad/undergrad students.

I think it's safe to say that all the major contenders have good schools that Amazon would find enticing.I still say it's a battle between Chicago, Washington, Toronto, Philly, Boston, and Atlanta with Montreal, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Charlotte, and Dallas as potentials. Note I didn't say Denver as it has many good attributes but I don't think Amazon wants another Western city nor one in a Mountain time-zone. Frankly I would be surprised if Amazon even goes for a Central time-zone city

Yet another prediction ranking from Inc., though it only includes 6 top cities. It seems these prediction articles are finally becoming exhausted. This one seems more qualitative than quantitative, but another perspective nonetheless:

Quote:
Inc. culled data from a number of sources -- betting sites, shipping experts, investors, and people familiar with Amazon, among others -- to come up with the following list of top contenders, ranked (more or less) in order of likelihood.
1. Atlanta
2. Chicago
3. Austin
4. Philadelphia
5. Boston
6. D.C.

TO be honest, this one does seem the most realistic and analytically sound one I’ve read.

I could pretty much see these top 6 cities in just about any order.

I believe, it will be one of these 6 or Denver. Just my opinion.

I think every metro on your list is at least double Austin's population.

A good analysis but again I don't know if they looked into just American cities or not.

HQ2 ain’t going International. In no way, shape or form does Bezos want Amazon involved in the political firestorm that would create.
