[quote=LordBalfor;5316698]Tend to agree with those who think it should be legalized (as long as it is of one's free will) for the same reasons mentioned above. In truth, many women in effect sell their affections for reasons of financial security and enter into marriages and (thus allow their husbands to have sex with them) for reasons other than "love" - are these women prostitutes too? It's silly that two folks who have sex but no money changes hands are not doing anything illegal, but if the man gives the woman money in exchange it's suddenly against the law. What about those women who are seduced by the luxuries and security a wealthy man possesses? Is that not the same thing in many ways? Such activities are a pretty common occurrence. Few wealthy men have problems getting dates.

When it comes to sex, people do things for a lot of different reasons, but certainly women seeking financial security though sex (either within or outside of marriage) is a pretty common tale throughout history and across cultures. Are all these women prostitutes? From a moral perspective, I don't see how it's really all that different at it's core - once religion is left out of it.

Ken I agree, a LOT of women, including some I know, more or less sold themselves for financial security

I sold myself for financial security. But it wan't my sex organs--it was my brain (organs?)

The only difference between the two, in my opinion, is that selling the body sex organs tends to be a little messier than selling the brain.

All the while, I felt like I was unappreciated, disliked even. I felt used. I felt taken advantage of. I felt as if I were nothing but a commodity. ...and, hey, I have a good education and was making a lot of money.

So what's the dif?

No difference!
One correction: prostitutes don't sell their body, they only provide sexual services. People who sell their body will usually sell a kidney.
I once worked for a small company. The worst prostitute was my boss (the owner). He was always selling something - our products, the company image, the company to investors, company to potential employees (back when employees were still in demand). I don't remember him not selling something.

I will say this, Dennis' Viagra-flushed face is an intoxicating spectacle of delightfully wicked human behavior.

I don't have the guts to be a prostitute. I admire the prostitutes for having the guts to do what they do for a living.

While most of my beliefs and morals lie right of center, in the case of prostitution I don't think you'll ever rid the country or the world of it. I do believe it should be legalized, regulated and taxed. One reason I think it should be legalized is to protect the girls. Many prostitutes are victims of pimps and sex slaves. This is especially true overseas in southeast Asia and Eastern Europe. There are children as young as 5 years old being sold for sex in Cambodia...the sick perverted Americans and Eurotrash that solicit these children should be castrated.

Here in the U.S. many prostitutes do so out of desperation to feed their drug addiction. The crack whores and the exotic dancers who have taken things a step further. They are often abused by pimps and preyed upon by gangs. Legalizing it may help to provide a safe atmosphere to ply their trade in a regulated/disease free environment. Allow them to operate in places that are in industrial areas away from homes and schools. Save the taxpayers the expense of arresting the girls and their Johns and trying to prosecute an act between two consensual adults. There are plenty of other crimes that need law enforcements attention such as murders, rapes, robberies, burglaries and assualts.

All making it illegal accomplishes is:
1. It raises the price.
2. It raises the risk of disease.
3. It raises the risk of injury to the service provider.
4. It keeps pimps employed
5. It fills the jails.

It really needs to be legalized, regulated...and maybe taxed.

Prostitution is NOT a disease, CANCER is a disease. HUGE difference.

If our mothers had ended up in some brothel and we get aborted along the line as unwanted luggage(babies).
Maybe, but at the end of the day, we are ALL still animals, and basal desires happen and are natural. We ARE biologically animals.

You don't know that at all, total straw man.

Pests? Wow.

It's amazing to me, that people like you who claim moral superiority, usually are morally bankrupt.

When you consider that a lot of women are coerced into prostitution and then kept in prostitution by violent pimps, it is far from a victimless crime.

The ultra-libertarian Johns, only interested in getting their jollies, accept the woman is willingly trading sex for cash with 10-20 guys per day, rather than considering the fact that the woman is more than likely being forced to engage in such horrid activities under threat of violence from a behind-the-scenes pimp.

I can't think of any woman, aside from the most emotionally damaged and traumatized, or the most disgusting and vile wretches, or those who are being forced/coerced to do so, who would want 10-20 sexual partners in a lifetime, let alone in one day.
