Not that this thread should be about Richmond, but Richmond has always had "clout" due to its history. Virginia was once the most powerful state in the "colonies" and Richmond has of course a strong history, plus it's the state capital. Greensboro and Winston were most known as tobacco and textile producers for the vast majority of their history. They are still seen as "blue collar towns" by many businesses.
But if you think there isn't enough shopping in the triad, maybe it's time to take advantage of that and open a store of your own!
I can't believe no one has mentioned the Friendly Center complex in Greensboro! We go through Greensboro every couple months and I LOVE to stop, walk around and shop. There's a nice Belks, Macys, Apple, Brooks Brothers, JCrew, Talbots, a Lilly Pulitzer store, Barnes & Noble, jewelry stores etc and nice restaurants, too.
Foreign Cars Italia in Greensboro also has Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, etc., too, by the way.

The Friendly Center is nice, especially the newer part of it. I believe the OP did mention it when he/she called it an "outdoor center."
Not sure we've been to the same Short Pump. It's not high-end. It's just an open-air mall with the same options one finds at most larger malls these days. Ultra high-end compared to North Side in Winston, perhaps.
Greensboro had Carolina Circle, built after both the decline of malls and the decline of that section of town had already begun. Actually, it can be seen as being decades too late or too early, now that we have been encouraging growth along US-29.
Friendly Center also had Forum VI, which was a small indoor mall. It also struggled for years and then failed.
