Traveler's Rest up and coming (Greenville, Travelers Rest: 2009, home, landscaping)

Wow guys. We did the greenway trail this morning and I hadn't been in the Traveler's Rest area in a few months. The redo looks fantastic! The work is still in progress....landscaping being finished, but overall, it is looking great.

While walking down the street, along with two different cycling teams passing us, a vintage BMW driving club came motoring down the street several cars long. Lots of people using the greenway even with the current cold temps.

Went in Williams Hardware and if you haven't been, you HAVE to go. Like a mini, upscale version of Mast. Great merchandise and they also have a cafe....open for lunch every day and dinner on weekends. Great food, wine tastings on certain nights, cool place.

I also noticed for the first time how the greenway trail runs immediately behind so many commercial buildings....watch for some future restaurants with decks on the back....simply step of the greenway and have lunch or a drink.

With the demographics of Furman, Paris Mountain and Mountain Park / Cliffs, watch this area boom.

Oh, also, the last leg of the greenway between downtown and TR is suppose to open this spring with a big kickoff run.

These pictures don't do it justice....go check it out in person....you'll be impressed. From a 5 lane highway to a quaint village area. Impressive.

OMG - I was there recently, and was thinking "this is going to be great soon!". I think TR is poised for growth, even in this economy, as people bike, walk & run the Swamp Rabbit Trail from both ends. I also think this could be a magnet for people in the Cliffs & other developments along Hwy 11, if restaurants, shops, spas, etc develop. The old home in one picture looks like it's just waiting to become a fantastic B&B....

I went through Travelers Rest two weeks and my jaw nearly dropped when I saw the improvements the city had made to their downtown area. Fantastic looking.

I'm truly impressed! Living in an area with a good bike trail is an asset indeed. We have one right across the street from our FL home, and it is very popular. It's nowhere near as nice as the one in TR, though. Ours is a strip of asphalt, period. You're right about small businesses flourishing along the trails; that has happened here. I'm so glad we chose TR for our future home (assuming we can ever get out of FL).

Great to hear you chose TR. Probably by the time you move, the trail will be totally complete and you'll be able to jump on your bike and ride all the way downtown to Riverplace, Peace Center, etc.....through Cleveland Park and on south to Greenville Tech (and eventually Lake Conestee). The is one LONG trail. A real plus for the area.

Wow, I checked out TR when I first moved here and decided that the only thing I liked about TR was the name. Looks like I ought to reconsider!

My horse is stabled on the north side of TR, and I come through town frequently. I have really enjoyed watching the progress of the trail and other downtown improvements.

Gotta put a plug in for Trillium Arts Centre, a non-profit arts asociation. Oh, and don't forget to check out Leopard Forest Coffee Co, too.

The post the other day about Travelers Rest piqued my interest on the Greenway Trail. I searched for more info on this site about the Greenway Trail. I only found two post on the subject. Where do I find more info and better yet comments about the trail? Thanks.

G-man posted below a link to the Swamp Rabbit Trail....that is the name of this one linear trail. When complete in the next few months this one trail will be about 15 miles long. Here is a link with a map of this one trail (good map).
Additionally, I've posted a link to the cities main greenway page that shows all the other various trails that branch through the city. I've lived in several places that tried to get greenways going and Greenville's is by far the best.
