Thank you scout 1964 for your input. My husband will start working next week in La Porte and we have no idea what area that we need to be in. We have a 11 year old grandson who lives with us so we to are looking for a good school and a safe place to live. Hopefully my husband can find a place before we come down to live during Christmas break but your input has help a lot so thank you. Also I seen where you had move from the foothills of the Ozarks in Oklahoma I have family who also lives in that area on the Illinois River.

You are so very welcome! I would encourage you to think about what matters most to you with regards to quality of life. No place is going to be perfect. La Porte is a comfortable enough area. Homes are affordable. Schools are hit and miss but I have friends that live there that are very happy with the school system.

If you're not familiar with www.greatschools.org or www.niche.com, I'd suggest looking there for how schools are rated and what the reviews are saying if you think you might base where you live on school district ratings. The drive from the Mont Belvieu area over to La Porte really wouldn't be that bad as far as Houston area commutes go. That area feels more rural but it is growing so incredibly fast that won't last for long. Growth all the way out to Dayton (northeast of Baytown) is really nuts. Crosby would also be a manageable commute and homes are affordable there, too. School system is solid.

And re: Oklahoma/foothills of the Ozarks -- I so miss that area and the friends we made there. Such a beautiful part of the country.

I wish you all the best on your move! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Happy to help if I can!
