This is the Immigration Forum. If people wish to discuss corrupt politicians, how to help citizens without health insurance or other problems they do that in the appropriate forum.

We need to correct all these, and being, iliterate and racist will not help the cause.
I can't speak for you...but if I was HALF as upset with the country I lived in as this post seems to indicate, I think I'd have to leave! How can you possibly STAND it another minute?

By the way, I agree that we DO have many problems...I just don't think they're as bad as MOST places' problems are....and MOST places don't even TRY to take care of 'everyone', the way we try to do here. Many places, for example, have few problems with illegal immigration--they just 'shake them down, throw them in jail, and deport them---and PRESTO !....no problem. Many places have no problem with religious minorities, because they don't ALLOW religious minorities to practice their beliefs...therefore, no problem !!....Many places don't have silly 'arguments' between racial groups---they have actual violence. You can't 'insult' each other, if you're not on speaking terms. You're right....we DO have a lot of problems in this nation...in fact, from what I hear, it's about the WORST nation on earth. I can't even IMAGINE why anybody would want to stay here, now that you mention it.

If we were any kind of a decent place, we'd have 75 million illegals here, But we only have about 20 million, because the REST of them aren't interested in coming here, because it's such a MISERABLE place to be (as your post points out so well).

Like you, I'm not happy with our problems, either..particularly the way ALL OF US are so "iliterate" and racist, and the astounding degree of "cultural ignornce". The rest of the world is so tolerant, it DOES make us look pretty bad by comparison, it's true.

Hey, it doesnt take much to get rid of illegals. I dont agree with roundups, they are ineffective. But cutting their jobline will force them to leave. With no income, they wont want to be here (it obviously isnt their overwhelming American patriotism that is keeping them here). Hey, it worked in Oklahoma!

True,,,,but the people(+Governor) of Oklahoma didn't have sympathy over some Illegals,,,,,,, so when it came time to leave the state there was no hesitation on the peoples part.
Some states don't know whether to sympathize or critisize Illegals,,,and that's where the question comes in.........

Our government DOES have a lot of corruption too. I think the difference is that we have a system of checks and balances that Mexico doesn't have. Does it always work? Unfortunately, no. You guys bring up Nixon as an example of American governmental corruption? I look at him as a tribute to America's system of checks and balances. If the same thing happened in Mexico, would he have gotten caught, or would it just be brushed under the rug? If he DID miraculously get caught, would he be impeached?

The bottom line is that Mexico, like many third world countries has far too little government accountability, which allows a few people to become VERY, VERY wealthy, while the rest of the nation suffers. Unfortunately, these people are absolutely right about 1 thing. America is looking more like Mexico every day. Our government is out of control, and something has to be done about it. It seems like all 3 major candidates are part of "the machine", so I have little hope.

I've never quite understood the idea, frequently heard in these discussions, that "We're corrupt, so we shouldn't mind MORE, and WORSE, corruption from Mexico. WE have criminals HERE, so we shouldn't mind it when some illegals turn to violent crime, because (I guess) we should be 'used to it'. WE have poor people here, so we shouldn't mind it when MORE poor people show up, looking for work. WE have lots of people here receiving government aid, so we shouldn't mind if a few 'outsiders' show up, wanting MORE government services. We've ALWAYS taken in immigrants, so we should never STOP taking them in...EVER. And we shouldn't 'quibble' just because some are legal, and some are not."

And, presumably, we shouldn't compare ourselves with Mexico (which is very HARSH on illegals entering ITS territory, and CERTAINLY doesn't allow foreigners to get involved in its politics), because "we're BETTER than that"....and yet, though we're "better" than Mexico, at the same time, we're a "racist, mean-spirited, xenophobic" nation. So it sounds like we're "better" than Mexico, but we're actually "worse", also. Pretty confusing.

Nobody ever wants to JUSTIFY this stuff, though it's often cited as 'reasons' for our 'needing' to take in immigrants, as many as want to show up, legal or otherwise. We "NEED" them, we're told, and it's for OUR benefit that they're coming here.

I'm not a rocket scientist, but I KNOW that conditions here (at least for the present) are at least MARGINALLY better than they are in Mexico. 20 million illegals wouldn't BE HERE, if this wasn't the case. These comparisons between OUR corruption and 'unfairness', and THEIR corruption and 'unfairness', are just SILLY....and that's probably why those who write such stuff, never go on to explain what they mean.

What I gather, from many of these posts, is that "we're a mean, racist, selfish nation (in fact, some have suggested we're just about the MEANEST nation on Earth), which has ALWAYS abused its minorites, and mistreated people all over the world.....and, besides THAT, we're failing to live up to our WONDERFUL traditions of freedom and decency" ..HUH ??
