It's really 40 hours (lunch isn't paid) and I spend another 15 hours a week commuting so free time isn't as abundant as you think.

Believe me I tried doing the cleaning myself but I'm not very good at it and don't enjoy it. In the end it just didn't make sense for me to do it. I don't love spending the money but I like having time to do other things.

I get it. To each their own. I am cheap I guess. It kills me that we pay a part time babysitter. Wish we didn't have to...but such is life.

Just live in a home you love, focus on the friends you have (that I'm assuming have similar values as you) regardless of town. You're obviously not happy in Hingham, and that's okay. However, expect very similar things in all of the more affluent towns throughout the state. It just kinda comes with the territory.
It's not having a cleaning person that bothers me. I find it difficult to deal with people who have a superior attitude and treat those making less money as having less value. It's the 'attitude' that bothers me.

You and I have more in common than I have with the majority of Hinghamites. I hate the snobs, the people who are mean spirited, the patronizing, and the self absorbed. As you said, maybe that goes hand-in-hand with having money. But not everyone who has money behaves poorly.

In any event, you know exactly what I am talking about. And your advise, which I appreciate, is in line with my husband's constant mantra of "Wherever you go, there you are". Maybe I need a psycharitrist, not a real estate agent.

Are there any places that have some of the characteristics of Hingham, i.e., closeness to the water, commutable to Boston, good schools, but are a little more down to earth, crunchy granola-ish?

I don't have a problem with people who make little money...it's the people who have decided not to work and expect the working people to pick up their tab that I can't stand. Give me hingham snobs over them any day.

Also I think there are plenty of other places in ma that are more affluent than hingham these days-chestnut hill, brookline, weston, beacon hill area. They make hingham people look average.

'Commutable to Boston' is the limiting factor, otherwise I might be in Vermont...raising goats.

Agree 100% with the second part of the above post from Whatsnext. If you look at the median family income by town on Wikipedia, Hingham is 28th in the state.

I totally see the attraction in Hingham. I loved that coffee shop with a view of the harbour. I think it could be a nice childhood to grow up there and then have Boston so close.

I did have a problem though with that Juice shop though. If you are going to charge over $10 for a smoothie or juice, I expect all of the produce to be Organic and for you to make your own nut milks and not used store bought almond milk loaded with sugar and fillers!

No water, though. Water is a big factor here.

When Hingham people want to move up they generally go to Wellesley. But they come right straight back, with the excuse that real estate was too expensive. Also, there is very little diversity here. Everyone looks alike. Like they could all be related.
