The reason I wanted to post the pics of Lake Orion is to show that there is beauty downstate too. I think it's overall a very nice town with a northern feel to it. I like to visit when I'm missing my hometown, Traverse City. Actually, I wish I would have taken more pics of the pretty parts in the Detroit area to clear up misconceptions that the whole area is bad. Perhaps I'll get a chance to post some soon!

Yeah there's like a billion lakes around Waterford and that area. I used to go swimming at Pontiac Lake when I lived out there, I thought it was very nice. I also have fished on Lake Oakland and Maceday Lake.

I've recently been hearing about Pontiac Lake and how nice it is. I'd like to check it out before we move next month. You are right about Waterford having a lot of lakes around. We have a nice park with a swimming lake in Rochester Hills called Spencer Park. Reminds me a lot of the Interlochen State Park, except without the camping. I only have one picture of it though. Here it is:

Yes, Stony Creek is beautiful too! I don't have any pics at the moment though. We are fortunate in Rochester Hills to live near so many wonderful parks!

Pics from Sleeping Bear Dunes area from this past weekend (unbelievable weather!):
Starting the ascent:
A nice view (treat) about 1/2 way up:
Looking at the people far off gives you an idea of the massive scale of the dunes. The cars are about 3/4 miles away and about 200 feet below.
A little respite in the shade at the top:
Enjoy!

I have lived here for over six years and haven't set foot in Stony Creek Metro.
Took the kids there in 1974 and the (college) lifeguards were just plain nasty. Drunk with power, I guess. Stopped on the way home (Sterling Heights, at that time) and ordered a pool. Enjoyed that for 23 years

Here's another. Kayaking across Torch Lake. No photoshopping on the colors, this is the true turquoise color of Torch Lake (and yes one of mine ;-)):
Torch Lake is about 18 miles long, 2 - 3 miles wide, 315 ft deep at its deepest point and averages about 111 ft deep.
