Nice! I got a decent sized doe over the weekend. I'll butcher it tomorrow. Venison in the freezer!! I saw a nice 8 point but he was in a hurry and I couldn't get off a shot. I'll be back on Fri. morning to try again.

December 26th on the Niobrara
Merritt Dam is frozen and looks spectacular. We went up there for a picnic the day after Christmas. The dogs tracked bunnies, deer, turkeys, and raccoons, and startled a grouse who took flight.
Those are not whitecaps - they are snow blown and frozen into the waves! Check out the falls below the road - frozen! The water is still running at the base of the dam, though.
We took the back road home, and stopped at the river crossing for more pics:
Tubing the river would be kind of a difficult proposition right now!
Isn't this state just amazing?? Sigh... Beautiful year round!

SCGranny,
You really do love the Nebraska terrain don't ya? For me, take it or leave it, I'm not impressed or just don't appreciate it. I'm glad you like it here though!
Nice Pictures, btw. They do look much more interesting than what we see here in Eastern, NE.

LOL burgerflipper... maybe you could appreciate where I grew up even more. 78 degrees on Christmas, snow every decade or so (maybe) lots of grand architecture and historical places, moonlight through the Spanish moss, alligators grunting in the swamps, and the air heavy with humidity and heat 9 months out of the year...
Ick ick ICK. Swarms of giant bugs and noseeums, and sweat and endless toil in 100 deg summer temps with 100% humidity 11 months out of the year! Not a breeze anywhere unless you count the hurricanes... filthy grey salt water everywhere, black grasping pluff mud (AKA black gumbo) that is like quicksand, every snake you can imagine in the North American hemisphere but four, in your ditch, under you car, on your front porch - and yes, even occasionally in your swimming pools and toilets.
Thanks, and yes I really do love it here! "Hit's more better".

Thanks, aerahrtlu! I have a Canon PowerShot SD850 IS digital. I love it but it drives me crazy - I take pictures and never know how good the shot is until I get it home on my computer, because the camera screen is soooo small... I say a lot of - "WOW! I took THAT??? Honey, lookit THIS!!"
The sky in NE simply amazes me. I have whole folders of sky pictures; sunrises, sunsets, clouds, storms, rain, snow... everything. The different levels of humidity and temperature, the clouds pushed about by the wind, puffed and plumped and then scattered about, the reflections off of the water and the shadows on the hills; they all make for the most amazing colors and shapes and lighting. The girls at work laugh at me constantly - I'll come in in the morning saying "Did you SEE that SKY this morning! The ribbons of purple and red and gold? The way the moon was just hanging over the hills?" They told me they live here and see it every morning, and it isn't remarkable to them at all... but now occasionally they'll stop and see what I'm seeing, too!
I can't claim any kudos - I am merely the recorder, not the Architect. Just happy to be in a place where I can love it and share it!

I love those pictures! I'd love to see any of the city, or of places during a different season, if you have any. Thanks!
