I'm so old I remember...it's the 50's and.. The hand - dandy - Bomb Shelter. Every one was building the bomb shelter in the back yard next to the 200 ton concert - brick - I have the biggest one in the neighborhood out door cooker. On a weekend the boys from second shift would get together with some beer - concrete - brick and build the ultimate cooker.. The biggest one in the neighborhood.. until Frank first shift decides to build a large one. Which leads every one to build the ultimate bomb shelter. Were junior can take his friends too look at his dad's Playboy Magazines

church bells tolling to announce someone had died.

We lived on a farm 1 mile from town and the church bells would ring in the middle of the afternoon to announce someone had died.

My dad would stop what he was doing and count the slow tolls of the bell.

One somber toll for each year old.

We then tried to figure out by the age who had died.

Loved laying out on the backseat of my family's Chevy Impala(leather seats I could lie full out) with the air conditioning on full blast while my dad drove along...

those were the days...

With 592 pages of postings somebody else has probably posted this but your post made me realize I am so old I remember when no cars except racing cars had seat belts.

Yup, I know my 1963 Ford truck had no seat belts.

When I bought a new 1964 Chevy Malibu SS it had a seatbelt, but only a lap belt.

Yes on seat belts... and race cars only had lap belts.. Remember those vinyl seat covers that would fry the backs of your legs in the summer.. and with the static discharge and a snow suite on toddler would weld the zipper shut in the winter.
