That little area may still be a county island. I don't remember that building ever being called the River Bottom room. Since it stopped being a nightclub, it's been either a mattress or furniture place. I'm not sure anything is operating in there now.

The River Bottom Room referred to the downstairs portion of JD's where the rock-n-roll was happening. I've included a Google street view image of the old JD's building as it appears recently. That building has been added onto a couple of times over the years.

Remember the trampolines just north of JD's??

The trampoline place had The trampolines embedded in the ground, less chance of breaking your neck.

This area was part of the county between Scottsdale and Tempe. There was also a spaghetti restaurant along there in the early 70's that had some of the biggest former names in Rock and Roll appearing, like Chuck Berry who was at the time washed up.

Waylon had a lot of connections to Arizona, but his life's story is pretty darn interesting. Below is a link to a New Times story published after his death in 2002. A good read.

Phoenix

Waylon is buried in the Mesa city cemetary. Another infamous Arizonan is also buried there, Ernesto Miranda, who the famous Miranda Warning is named after.

Thats true. Heres a pic of his stone and a few from the historic rape case itself.
I understand he died in a bar/knife fight on January 31, 1976 (aged 34) somewhere down in the deuce.
Does anyone know exactly where that was?

BTW the guy who killed him invoked his Miranda rights. Zing!

It was the La Amapola Bar, can't find a street address, but it was displaced by the building of the Civic Center.

He also skipped bail and headed straight for Mexico and hasn't been seen since. Kinda ironic ain't it??

There were batting cages called Baseball Batting Range and a Tri-City Raceway.
