Kinda like putting John McCain up against Barack Obama.

Gotcha!

Not even close, McCain and Obama both had support around the country and both would have been new to the White House but Bush had been in office for 4 years when he ran a second time. Bush, according to many lefties is the most hated person on the planet and you guys still couldn't find someone that could beat him in 2004?

Its true. Kerry was a disaster. To call him inept would be an insult to inept people.

So, how did you know that there were no WMDs? He had a history of using them, so how did "everyone in the world know there were no WMDs ???"

The answer to the question is "out of ignorance and lack of reality". Most of these folks claiming to hate Americans either have never met (or only met 1) American, or never been to the U.S before. It's like saying you hate some type of food without trying it before.

Bush was able to make gay marriage a wedge issue in 2004 and let's not forget the "Swift Boat" attacks on Kerry. Let's also not forget Bush won that election 286 electoral votes to 251 or 51% to 48%. If Kerry picks up Ohio and another decent size state he wins the election. Considering the incumbents have a built in advantage it was a fairly close election.

Strel,
Hope it does decrease as it is not nice to take a vacation and not be comfortable on how people welcome you. I remember a few months ago while vacationing in the Greek Islands this American girl couldn’t start her rental bike. I approached her to give her a hand. As I was taking a look at her bike we talked about how nice the island was and then came the question “So, where are you from?” she tried to avoid answering but I don’t blame her.

Good tips for Americans from your link:
Avoid American fast-food restaurants and chains.
Keep discussions of politics to private places, not rowdy bars.
Take a rain check on wearing clothes featuring American flags or sports team logos.
Keep your passport out of sight.
Keep cameras, video equipment and maps tucked away.
Soften your speech; Americans typically overshadow their hosts in the volume department.
-----------------

C'mon....
Why Americans have to avoid American fast-food chains? Idiotic.
As to politics, why not discuss politics in rowdy bars?
Wearing clothes with the American flag (or any other flag) is tasteless, only creeps or hooligans do that in Europe.
As to the rest of caveats, those rules must be followed by all tourists and nationals.
Just another thing, most Americans that dress discretely in Europe will be considered TOURISTS, but not American tourists, just Tourists.
Americans, Russians and Japanese, and now Chinese tourists are treated better because they spend more money, they are more educated and they TIP. Americans are more popular because they know some Spanish and they are friendly and not "classists", they speak and are genuinely interested in humble people such as waiters, etc.
The tourists that really disliked in Spain are the English and French (sometimes).
Italians are rowdy as hell, but popular.

In Europe, "American Haters" are people with a pose, not for real, a rather old fashioned pose. Most "American Haters" are not American haters per se, they are similar to the "progressive" wing of the Democrat party.

Their "Anti-americanism" is American bred, but more political or cultural than personal. You also find similar creeps in the US, creeps such as Michael Moore, Liberal Democrats....

"American Haters" in Europe are just like Liberal Democrats, their culture in entirely American, they have nothing personal against Americans and they are interested in knowing Americans.
