We have a lot of mail-in elections here in CO. I find them convenient, yet. . . I personally know several people who voted for their college age kids who were away at college (one only 50 miles or so away) b/c they "knew how she would vote".
Someone please remind me why ANYONE needs to register with government for documentation that they are who they say they are?
I missed that part in the constitution where government is delegated power to require free people to register themselves and a photograph into the public record.
How did government function before photographs and ID documents?
My drivers license (I was taking public transportation) was expired for several months before I renewed it. My state ID expired the same day. Once it's expired it's not considered valid identification.
yep, which means you COULD NOT check a book out of the library, rent a car, travel by plane, buy tobacco or liqueur, enter a school grounds, use a credit card, open a bank account, cash a check, enter a casino, etc

uhm,,,id's...too include LAND DEEDS, working papers, etc have been arounf long before photos
the printing press, has been around since before the 1450's ...before columbus discovered the americas
ids have been required at many levels since the 1700's in the usa
in the mid 1800 ids were REQUIRED for every military member...why so they(thier bodies) can be identified on the battlefied...the first id tag (todya known as dog tag) was issued in 1899, and was manditory by 1913
birth certificates and death certificates have been issued since this countries beginning
fingerprints have been used since 1858 (england)....and 1182 in the usa for id...
Quote:
In 1882, Gilbert Thompson of the U.S. Geological Survey in New Mexico, used his own thumb print on a document to prevent forgery. This is the first known use of fingerprints in the United States

No, it is not required (we established that fact a couple pages back); it is voluntary, as is voting in an election.

To make sure that isn't Bob the college drop out that is claiming to be your doctor? So Chester the Molester doesn't pick up your kid from school? To make sure the pilot of your plane actually knows how to fly one. So Shyster Steve doesn't take money from your bank account? So Sally Sue doesn't pick up welfare checks in three differents districts? So......
So you and the rest of society are protected from people who are less than honest.
Again, the hospital won't treat you without an ID unless you are in danger of dying or losing a limb. If they can't work then they are most likely on SSI, which means either they are getting a check or having it transferred to an account. Both of those things require ID. Like I said earlier, the better answer is to help these people get IDs. It wouldn't just help them vote, it would help them function easier.
What are you talking about? I went through cancer diagnosis and treatment and never ONCE was asked for ID. I was asked for my insurance card, but never had to provide ID to corroborate who I was (even though I have several forms of ID).

When? We were told it had to do in part with HIPPA.
Here is my thing. You have to have all the things required to get an ID to get social security or get a social security card to get a job. Unless you are on death's door the hospital doesn't have to treat you without ID. You definitely can't cash a check or get a bank account. The better answer is seeing to it that people have access to getting IDs. Organizations that want to register people to vote could always have drives to take people to get IDs.
^^ Exactly!!!
If anything, everyone who doesn't have a government issued ID should be encouraged or made to have one. Getting a valid ID is an important step in getting out of a some lifestyle that is under the government radar and dealing only in cash and bartering.
And if you are living in the US and undocumented (without a social security number or valid ID), then you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Why should you have a say in a government that you are not a part of??? What should you have a say where my tax dollars are being spent???
Either be an active part of the system and have a vote, or stay below the radar and be denied a vote. Your choice.
