What department is this? You'd get fired here if you couldn't manage that (I've actually seen that happen).

If a cop cant shoot a 4 inch group on paper at 25 meters or 15 for that matter do we want that cop in a situation like the Empire State building shoot? I shoot 2.5 inch groups all day everyday. I also shoot a lot to maintain what I learned when I served.
What is the difference between a house to house firefight and a shootout on a city street?
Americans in the background, this is not Iraq or Afghanistan, you miss, that bullet has your name on it and it will come back to you. Knowing your backstop is HUGE in law enforcement.

Ask cops clearing a house is about as dangerous as it gets.
Where do you think the military gained their current knowledge on clearing houses? I'll give you two guesses, but you're only gonna need one.

Honest to god I have a CCW but use it only when transporting my weapon off my property. I almost never carry a gun.
exactly my point. Now compare this to the commandoes in this thread.

Yeah, when you're in the parking lot in Pelham Bay Park, you can hear the shots going off from time to time. I didn't know crap back then but it sure as heck sounded like a good time.

Believe it or not when your on the range training and qualifying it's a pressure cooker. As I said the ESU cop I know is damned good. She doesn't shoot as often as I do so she can't group with me. I have a Dillon reloader that keeps my 1911 fed. That and a nice pistol range in my yard.
It's a good time on what many call Hogan's alley. I dont know what NY calls theirs. When I was younger I liked the combined shoots. Rifle long range, shot gun and pistol. I liked the timed shoots as well. I am 50 this year and stick to pistol and rifle. Even at that I don't do nearly as many shoots as I did even a few years ago.

In LE, no way, they are all over you. I got a recent story, from just this past Thursday, night shoot. The guy next to me missed one round from the 100 yard line, the other 29 he hit by the way. This is precisely what I heard the instructor say.

"You threw one... where the f*** is that round going? You need to get your f****** head in the game".

One round, just one.

I assume this is a rhetorical question to be purposely obtuse, otherwise you lack common sense.

True, the cops should have first negotiated between the two of them how many shots they'd fire each.

Then after every few shots they should stop to ask the guy pointing the gun at them from 8 feet away if he plans on being disabled from what has hit him so far, or should they continue shooting.

We have range days like that, all kinds of stuff, M-1 garands, AK's, Glocks all day and they'll run you through a qual on whatever you want. They want to get everybody used to firing different weapons because one day on the street, you might have to pick up a different weapon system and make it work NOW. I tried a qual with a .500 magnum.

From the 25 yard line, it wasn't pretty.

I would have thrown the weapon at the target.

100 yard with a pistol? Or a rifle? I know few shooters with a pistol will group at 100 yards. Well they will with a Thompson Contender or a revolver with a scope (maybe).
100 meters with a rifle should be a slam dunk. Well depending on the weapon. A cheap Stevens and god knows where the bullets will fly.
A Remington Model 700? 1 inch groups all day. The instructer was right.
An assault rifle? Depends on the sights but I have seen many a shooter nail 3 inch groups with ironsights.
