What polls? What polls show that "most" latinos don't accept the term....?? Thats a crock...damn near every one I know has no issue with the term, if they feel they need to discern..they have no issue doing so.

"Not representing what latin beauty is" was something the other MOTHERS said...and frankly who cares what they have to say...

The only explanation that means anything is the committees..

This is supposed to be the United States, melting pot and all that.

Suggest this entire pagents organization be investigated for EEO violations, and discrimination against entrants with darker skin. Slap them with a civil rights violation.

Do you think they should be slapped with a civil rights violation if a non-hispanic white wanted to compete in it and were turned away? If so, then I agree with you.

I would question the racism on the part of these mothers. Her skin wasn't olive toned/brown enough for them? What does skin color have to do with it? If she has Hispanic ancestry then she should qualify as a Hispanic and that's all that matters.

It doesn't really matter what they think though...they have no say in the process or how the event is run.

The organizers do...If she is hispanic, then she is. If she is, they want her to pony up the evidence. Should she have come under scrutiny before the fact? Absolutely...

But nonetheless...if she is indeed hispanic...she shouldn't have any issues proving so.

I mentioned it before...and nobody wants to answer.

If we took peoples word for face value...then what is stopping any white or black person from entering these pageants under the "25% rule"??

Does culture matter or does it not?

J Lo is fluent btw...as shoddy as it is she can move to PR and not deal with any language barrier. Maybe PR is a bad example because most speak English there...lets say DR. She was raised in a spanish speaking home.

I'm not sure what point you are making about Longoria tracing her ancestry.

I question McKoys ethnicity because there simply is no perceptible evidence. If you are making a claim, to win a competition, you should be able to.substantiate it.
Eva Longoria just learned Spanish recently in a college. By your logic, are you saying that speaking Spanish is the main qualification for being Latino? If so I'm questioning your flawed and hypocritical logic. LOL SMH oy vey.

I mentioned Eva Longoria's family lineage and family history because her family and ancestors on both sides have lived on lands part of the USA since the early 1500s. So Eva Longoria may have a hard time proving or showing her claims to Latini roots.

Hell, Beyonce is technically a Latina as well. Beyonce's father is Bahamian, and Beyonce's mother is Louisiana Creole. Beyonce's mother's side of the family has a similar background and family history and context as Eva Longoria. Beyonce's lineage goes back to the 1500s descended from Spanish and French settlers and their colonial subjects of all races and racial admixtures. Beyonce even still has French speaking, Creole speaking, and Spanish speaking relatives and family. Her mother even speaks all of these languages.

Jennifer Lopez does not really speak Spanish. She has learned a little bit of it more in depth over the years for her singing career and to appeal to the Spanish language media and market but she was not really engrained in Spanish speaking.

Even Mariah Carey identifies with her Latina heritage in addition to her black and white heritages as well.

Next are you basing your ideas of Latinidad on looks? Looking and being are two different things. There is no looking Latino as anyone of any race or phenotype can be Latino/Hispanic.

If Jakiyah had lighter skin, and had a stereotypical or ambiguous look associated as "Latina", but the same family history as she is now, would you question her being Latina?

Why do people make ethnic cleansing arguments then??? Hey who cares!? Colonialism stripped peoples customs and languages...but nothing changed!!

I guess all Trinidadians are Portugese and Dominicans are Haitian and Hungarians are Sumerian and so forth and so on
You do know that Haitians are Latinos too. And there are Haitians that identify with Latin identity, in addition to Caribbean identity. That's the thing, none of these label are identities are mutually exclusive.

But that German could have ancestry from Spain.

Better yet, what about people in Spain that have roots going way back in Spain but have ancestry that never mixed with indigenous Spaniards. It's all more about culture etc and association.

George Zimmerman is both German and Peruvian. He is mixed.
