Liberalism is at fault because most of the media/liberals could really care less about making sure people dont abuse the system, which we know they damn well are doing. We could push for a reform of welfare to put things in place to guard against it better, but I bet you they would be against it.

Sure, some shoppers may have overdone it a little and charged up a few items over the balance on their card. Who wouldn't get excited if someone suddenly offered you free food? But I don't think our society wants children to go hungry.

If cardholders went over there available balance, then they should have it subtracted from next months deposit on their card. If anyone says they didnt know its a lie. They are quite aware of when it hits and what the balance is. This is no knock on ebt users, but fair is fair.
Let's bring back food stamps, so many per week for basics. We'd probably save enough to pay off the debt in short order. And have some qualifications, like if you drive a Mercedez, no stamps for you!
