The McDonald's closest to me has a sign explicitly stating you're only allowed to sit around for 30 minutes after your meal has been consumed. After that, they'll kick you out. I've seen it happen before.
This should be a company-wide rule. The whole franchise thing must be why there's such huge discrepancies in enforcement.
Similar to the one I saw when I happened to be in New Jersey (near Manhattan)....45 minutes, but that included eating your meal.

It's sad that this has become so much of an issue as others have stated - our parents meet with others just to talk or gossip at places like McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts but are only there an hour or two. My son and dad meet up for coffee every Thurs and sit and talk for about an hour from 10-11 when the place is dead.
How is a senior meetup any different from the college students who populate the food places with wifi and sit there half the day doing their studies. You can't find a place to sit down in Panera because every table has one person sitting at a table with their laptops.
I think a lot of you will get an eye opening experience when you retire and find the highlight of your day is socializing with others your age for a cup of coffee. You can all say - oh not me - but you don't know what tomorrow will bring and that very well might be you.
My Korean partner and I were just laughing about this. What no one on this forum seems to understand is that this is a cultural clash. These elderly Korean people are behaving as if they're still living in Korea and not the United States.
In Korea, elderly people are respected simply for being older - in fact, one must respect anyone who is even one year older than himself, regardless of the person deserves respect or not. These people who were sitting in this McDonald's believe they have a right to sit there because they're elderly and believe that everyone else should just do what they say and want, whether it is harming the business or not and have no intention of adapting American cultural norms.
Someone above mentioned the korean culture of senior entitlement. That and the fact these people seemed to be really cheap SOBs (splitting fries? Filling up at the senior center first?) Makes this uniquely outrageous. Being old is no excuse for such boorish behavior.

An hour sit down is one thing.
ALL DAY EVERY DAY that put them out of business is a totally different thing.
Resolution reached. Seniors will vacate during busy hours.
