Countries such as Japan and South Korea have very little diversity. The question is are they hurting, or helping, themselves?

I consider immigrants such as Joseph Pulitzer to have been definite assets to the U.S. Some may leave because they're "done with" their hellholes.

No, the defining characteristics of American culture don't vary. There are minority cultures living among us but I am talking about mainstream America. If our cultures changes dramatically it will be via illegal immigration and that is neither lawful nor natural or allowing too many in legally from mostly one ethnic group. Diversity will encourage assimilation the latter produces colonization.

Something tells me that you aren't a part of mainstream American culture and that you detest what it is.

America is a great country and there is nothing about her I detest. I do, however, take issue with the idea that there is a monolithic American culture because I don't think there is one. And you're in denial if you think that the mainstream in 2016 is the same as it was in 1916 or will be in 2116.

[but we can disagree and there is no harm in that]

The problem with that is everyone thinks they have it.

I think Trump is a guy who could pull it off. Give the Somalis and the radical Muslims a choice, join the team or get the hell out.

Well you can "think" what you want but we do have an identifying culture and language. The basics of our culture are still intact. Not saying that there hasn't been some subtle changes over the years aka the melting pot. Today, the melting pot is being discouraged in favor of a salad bowl instead. I blame it on the so-called progressives who encourage this or ethnocentrics that want American culture to reflect theirs instead.

Fair enough.

[agree to disagree]

If some people want a salad bowl, fine. I did not sign up for teaching school in Urdu, Somali, Arabic or Spanish. If they don't want to assimilate they can pool their own resources.

My ancestors learned English in night school when they got off the boat. And spoke it at home so their children would grow up learning English. The immigrants' choices should be to assimilate, or pay for their own unique culture.
