That won't work.

Some things should be nation-wide.

That's like saying only some items in the Bill of Rights are applicable in any particular state.
That's how it is now. Look at gun rights. Something protected by the constitution.

Something perfectly legal in one state will get you arrested as a felon in another.

That's messed up

There's also the issue of whether or not marriages performed in states that allow same-sex marriage should be recognized in those that don't.
As a single person, I have little interest in subsidizing someone else's sexual relationship, regardless of where they might like to put it and with whom.

I have even less patience for efforts to force Orwellian double-think on me in the form of a new definition for normal that doesn't classify things like homosexuality as abnormal or even unnatural.

If you want to be normal, do what other people are doing and use your genitalia in the manner nature intended.

If that doesn't suit your fancy, accept the fact that you are not part of the norm and that institutions created to serve that which is normal are simply not for you.

I think you're wrong on this (as well as your original post). The big reason the GOP won't pass medical marijuana is due to money. The pharmaceuticals would lose out, and so would the lobbyists who represent them. The 'theocrats' don't have that huge amount of monetary influence. Really, really, same-sex marriage isn't going anywhere.

Couldn't rep you again. Since that'll never happen though, we're stuck with benefits for all which, pay attention here OP, aren't going anywhere.

Which made it a Federal equal protection issue. I'm personally fine with removing all State benefits.

Tony Perkins is an incredibly influential character on the religious right. He speaks at many conservative events and is a heavy opponent of LGBTQ rights in all areas (not just marriage) and proponent of conversion therapy. His "Family Research Council" is an offshot of James Dobson's "Focus on the Family."

While I agree that not everyone who voted for Trump is anti-gay, most GOP politicians won't think twice about pandering to their virulently homophobic base.

Dark times are coming in this country for those who aren't white, straight, male, and fundamentalist Christian.

"Dark times?" I call raaaaaaacist! Apologize, please.

It would be highly unusual for the SCOTUS to overturn a previous ruling. Especially in a situation like this were, as other posters noted, there are only a tiny percentage of people affected, and there is little clamor to overturn gay marriage. I would have preferred the 'civil union' option, but this is really semantics. There are much bigger fish to fry for conservatives.

IMO gay marriage is a generational rather than left vs right issue.

You want a woman's right to privacy adjudicated by the states rather than guaranteed by the Constitution?

It is a 10th amendment issue, that the federal government has no authority, to make legislation or a ruling in the matter.

Amend the US constitution with language to allow federal involvement, or violate the Constitution.
