Christs' basic teachings were to love god, one another. You are your brothers keeper. Since our government is of, by and for the people, it's a logical conclusion that Christ would support universal health care.
So, since I like carrot cake and carrot cake is made with carrots, I should like carrots?
There goes that theory......
Did Jesus go to Pontius Pilate and demand that he tax people to support his (charitable) beliefs?
A lot of people have great beliefs, doesn't mean they should be applied to government and forced on others. Most of the left doesn't believe this in social issues, why should they believe it with economic issues?
Jesus would:
1. Love it.
2. Ask why it's taken so long for someone so wealthy as our nation.
3. Kick the money changers (insurance companies) out of the temple (hospital).
4. Kiss/anoint/bless the surgeons who can take your brains apart and put them back together, a modern day miracle.
5. Educate the naysayers about brotherly love and caring for the less fortunate among us.

Yeah and maybe if you pray hard enough he will rain down the money to pay for it...

I'm can't say whether Jesus would support or oppose UHC. But I will say this:
1. Jesus neither condemns nor commends government. I don't think he would care who did the healing as long as it was somebody. So that question has no right or wrong answer.
2. Jesus did his miracles to show who he was, but it says many times that he had compassion on certain people he healed. So it wasn't entirely to show off his power. He actually cared about them, and commands us to do the same.
And another observation: I find it interesting that most christians (and I am one) want the government to make us into a christian nation--as long as it doesn't cost money. Banning stuff doesn't cost money, but using the govt. to help people does. At that point many christians pitch a hissy fit about "personal freedom" and "robbing the church". Since when is the church more important than helping the sick? I'm sorry, but that's just inconsistent, and that's being polite.
Well if it were you you'd surely be hoping SOMEONE would wouldn't you?
There are a lot of very selfish people in our country...
Sure I wish someone would pay for my food and my house. I wll send you my bank routing number. You will take care of this for me won't you? Or are you just selfish!!!!
Joe, that sums it up quite well. Thank you for posting it.
