I think this has to be about the stupiest topic I have ever seen and I have seen quite a few: 2,000 years ago and today are not the same....who knows how he would have thought.
I don't think so. He did not think highly of moneychangers or profiteers.
Let's be clear (I know you understand, but others may take your comment the wrong way): Christ had no problem with the profit motive. He clearly understood the concept of earning money. Ill gotten gain was another matter (profiteering).
There is a fine line between taking advantage of market conditions (shortages always drive up prices, because something that is scarce has a higher value), and a "ripoff" (but of course, it isn't a "ripoff" if you willingly shell out your cash).
If there is no profit in an activity, that activity will cease.
This is why Obama should worry us. He wants to dictate what doctors and other professionals may earn. This will result in fewer doctors, etc.
These are concepts that "liberals" just don't "get".
He'd encourage us to care for one-another and not rely on the government to do it.
Exactly! That is the Christian spirit! Why do liberals hate Christianity? It's always been about taking care of oneanother. Why do Christians go on missions trips to other countries? I don't see Muslims building hospitals and going into remote areas of the world to improve living conditions of the natives.
One of the churches we attended had semi-annual missions trips to Hatti, to do work at a hospital (repair the roof, update electrical, etc). All paid for from the generous giving of the church members and attendees.

You might be surprised. Those 2000 year old concepts are just as valid today as they were then. They are timeless principles.
Just like the principles articulated in our Constition are timeless. They are just as valid today.
You'd better re-think your position. Your dead wrong.
Which is exactly why we need the universal healthcare...it's ridiculous that our insurance should be a for-profit entity
Have you ever heard of the concept of RISK?
Bills are paid from premiums paid, and there had better be enough to cover them, or guess what: The insurance company goes broke, and your bills don't get paid.
Premiums are based on risk. The more risk the higher the premium.
If an insurance company cannot make a profit, the cannot pay your doctor bills! Duhhh?
The amount of profit they make will depend on their loss (paying your bills).
Why is this such a hard concept?
No profit, no paid bills, no insurance company. Gone. Out of business.
Why do Christians go on missions trips to other countries?
Hmmm...
To convert people to Christianity?
