Despite news reports of both Walmart and/or Lowe's having the glasses, I have gone to both over the last 48 hours and neither one had them. I live in Raleigh 30 miles away from Chapel Hill. Does anyone know of a place in RALEIGH that has the glasses?
In this Atlas Obscura article there are many pictures of people watching eclipses from different countries over many different years: 1927 England, 1911 Paris, 1995 Bangkok, 1910 New South Wales, 1914 Berlin, 1979 Denver, and 1932 Philadelphia and New York City.

The Lowes in Cary had them earlier this week. They were in a big display box near the registers.
[url]I'm guessing pollution, along with the location close to the coast contributes to the poor cloud conditions in the cities.
I think it's also time of year, where afternoon thunderstorms love to pop up during the summertime in the southeast. I think if the eclipse was during the winter, it would be a better chance of clear skies in South Carolina. i mentioned further up the thread, if you want to guarantee yourself clear skies, eastern Oregon in the high desert and western Idaho would probably be your best bet. I thought I read somewhere there's probably about a 30% of clear skies in Columbia on August 21st. Even with clouds, it's still going to get dark.

Yeh! Western Idaho, that's where I'll be. I hope you're right, cjseliga. And I hope you get clear skies in South Carolina. Heck, I hope everyone gets clear skies!
People should be aware that NASA is only standing behind 4 companies making glasses as being 100% and in compliance with their guidelines. You can google, I don't remember the names, but I paid $14 on Amazon for them and I doubt the $2 ones at Lowe's, which don't advertise the proper ISO #, are in compliance. I sent back my made-in-China glasses I originally got on Amazon because they don't have the proper # on them. https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety

I got mine for less than $2 on Ebay, and they are made by one of NASA's recommended vendors and have the appropriate ISO certification on them.
