I guess we should all stay inside then. No need to expose the kids to the dangers.

Thread is great but way too long. What's the summary in terms of places to go to see max eclipse that is most easily accessible from this area, for a day trip?

That's right. I wouldn't tell them anything about it either, because you can bet your bippy they'll be looking at the sun with the naked eye if they get a chance.

Well, I have wavered between thinking I'd go to a hotel near the band of totality, to turning it into a day trip with a friend, to now thinking the traffic will indeed be awful and maybe it's better to go down the night before...anyone else doing the back-and -forth?

Yes, exactly, and that's why I hope to get some solid advice/thoughts from those who are informed about it. I'm w you.

If you can locate a Waffle House with a Red Roof Inn or Super 8 next door on the map, you may have all the fixins of a fine excursion....

At this point I imagine it’ll be nearly impossible to get a hotel in or close to the band. Even two weeks ago when I last checked, the hotel search engines were showing no rooms at all. Might be able to look into an Airbnb, but it’ll be exorbitant.

Rent an RV and sleep in a Walmart parking lot?

Yeah, I don't think there are hotels left. I saw one room about 3 weeks ago, but I didn't jump on it and it disappeared. We decided to drive down from Charlotte.
