^^^^^^ Funny thing is their president and founder is a former insurance agency owner and guess what the group sells insurance just like AARP.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asso...rican_Citizens

Is their SS position really what people want increasing the minimum age etc?

A very conservative person wouldn't like AARP because much of what the AARP supports and lobbies for is exactly what a very conservative person would not want.

I would not support a spouse or a friend who pretends to have my best interests at heart, but then invests time and money in lobbying for legislation which goes against my personal beliefs, especially if I found out they were doing so because it is profitable for them.
They are a NON-profit organization. And yes, that status is threatened by republicans who are strongly lobbied by the medical/pharma industries and others, and on it goes, around and around. The amount spent on lobbying by AARP is less than 2% of their revenues. ($8.7 million in 2016 per the above link to open secrets, out of the $825 million revenue you cited above).

I can't find a more current link that is quite as succinct as this one from 2011, but it shows how the revenues raised by the member fees, advertising, royalties, etc, are used and where they come from. I wish I could find a more current version, other than multi-page annual reports, but this is representative and easy to read quickly.

I'm going to sign out of this convo and go make some fresh rolls for our Christmas dinner, but I'm just going to end my involvement in the thread with a quote from one of my favorite authors and humorists, Mark Twain..."It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.”

Hmmmm, second thread on this forum regarding “ conservative” people. Started by same person and going the same route as the other.

Because AARP sold out old people and Medicare when it came to supporting Obamacare in order to advance their medigap insurance arm of the company and rake in a bundle (like a billion dollars). At the time, their members were 14 - 1 against Obamacare.

If you follow the money in any scenario, you can usually come to the real reason.

Humh? Fox News? I’m sure that source is fair and balanced.

BTW, a five year old link to boot. Thanks for offering us to the most up to date info!

Because he's been convinced--likely by Fox News--that the AARP is a "leftist" organization, which is so ridiculous it barely merits mentioning. But today's "conservative" is not like the true conservatives of before: any organization that in any way stands to protect people is de facto the result of some "liberal" or "leftist" conspiracy. There are very few true conservatives left; most today are just right-wing conspiracy theorists, led like sheep to slaughter by the GOP.

It's for socialists.

Well said and it serves our politicians well to label an organization as either conservative or liberal because then the sheep will blindly follow the lead even if it is against those individuals interests.

Here we go....This is why these "Conservative" threads in Retirement should either be deleted or moved to the political forum immediately.
Someone is obviously posting these threads to bate liberals into using it for more conservative bashing which they love to do.
The holier than thow liberals who know everything start foaming at the mouth with glee at another opportunity to tell the world about how wonderful and open minded (while spewing bigoted hatred) they are and how evil conservatives are even though it's not suppose to be a political forum.
I hope a moderator shuts this down before some liberals start soiling on themselves with excitement but I think some already have.

This is the third thread started on this forum regarding “conservatives” which once again all it does is to turn out into another silly us vs them BS prevalent on the political forum. It is not just the liberals taking the bait as you stated but if you read thru them it also brings the conservatives taking the bait.
As I stated before these threads have no room in this forum because all they are there for is to lead to the name calling and that’s not just by one side.
