AARP lobbies for whatever is best for AARP, and when that includes supporting things like gun control, they aren't particularly forthcoming about their position to "members".

The gun control issue is but one of many issues. It is not the litmus test for whether a person is a leftist or not.
Conservative talk radio has ginned up hatred of AARP, right or wrong.
Who listens to that crap? You don't have to dig too deep to realize that AARP and its leadership are pretty far to the left. There must be this stereotypical belief that conservatives listen to talk radio and watch Fox News. I don't do either. My conservative beliefs existed way before either one.
Just out of curiosity, and an obvious need to type a bunch of stuff, can someone point out the "liberal" topics from this month's magazine entire table of contents?

If you actually haven't read the magazine or newsletters and are taking your opinions from something you heard on TV or a radio talk show, maybe you should check it out and form your own opinion. If you have, well have a nice day, we'll just agree to disagree.

The claim isn't that the public face of the AARP (their magazine, website, etc) is overtly "liberal", but rather that this +$1billion company uses the income from membership fees, insurance sales, and the like to support an anti-gun and otherwise left-wing political agenda, without being particularly forthcoming about their leanings.
Most join AARP for their hotel and motel discounts, read the magazine, are unaware of the politics of the organization, the millions spent lobbying in favor of the Brady bill, Obamacare, and against balanced budget laws, the latest tax bill, etc.
AARP doesn't talk about gun control on their formal website, a search of the topic just brings up the AARP discussion forums. If you want their position, you need to email "Member Services" and ask for the policy recommended by the National Policy Council and any statements passed by the AARP Board of Directors. Be persistent, you usually have to call/email more than once to get an answer on AARP policy positions.
Since I support most of the causes you mention Nonesuch, it's alright with me if they do too. I'm a proudly packin' (concealed carry permitted, of course!) retired female liberal. Some guns need to be controlled, and some people need to be prevented from accessing ANY, in my opinion of course.
They spend far more money on Dem candidates, than they do on Repub candidates.
