See ya later!

In other news, Oakland PD has FINALLY figured out that in order for them to do their jobs more effectively, they need the help of the community.

Good for the Oakland PD. One way to get the community to work with the police is to have better relations between the police and the community.

Still waiting for the long list of LA and SF neighborhoods that have ALL of the following:

1. Excellent K-12 public schools.

2. Very low crime rates.

3. Primarily middle class households.

4. Very affordable homes for middle class households.

mod cut

Exactly. Bratton is actually bringing about some positive change in Oakland. So in a way, Oakland PD is learning from the LAPD. Who would've have guessed that would be effective?

It's a step in the right direction. A small step, but a step nonetheless. I say a small step because there are still some other issues that need to be addressed. The crime that exists in Oakland is like crime that exists in many other cities. The crime is part of a big set of problems, with include broken homes, high dropout rates, high rates of out-of-wedlock births, anger, and nihilism.

Yeah, but many such issues are off limits.

My sister is an inner-city school teacher and it's common knowledge from the district superintendent to the school janitor that without a home environment at least somewhat conducive to learning there is little schools can do to educate some kids.

Unfortunately, it' still very politically incorrect to openly discuss this.

I don't think it's necessarily politically incorrect to discuss the issue, but as the old saying goes "The truth sometimes hurts."

And frankly -- why can't my 1099's balance? Drives me nuts.
