Wow I didn't know LA was that much more dangerous than NYC. Chicago is just crazy, people from south Chicago should move to Brownsville to escape the crime...

NYC had 40 murders last January. It's down a lot for January but it's still on pace for roughly what it was in 2014 and 2015.

LA's rising. 2 years ago it had 15 murders in January and this year it had 24. Last January it had 22.

Keep in mind warm cities have a longer huntin season than cold ones. If Detroit and Chicago had warm winters the stats would be worse than they already are.

Chicago PD only solving 26% of homicides doesn't help matters at all either

I have no scientific basis for this but I think Chicago's spike likely has to do with problems within the police department following the release of the video of that cop shooting. I think it's similar to what happened in Baltimore last year.

I like that metaphor..."hunting season."

I hear ya--no snitching is so terrible. Just saw "Chi-Raq" this weekend, and while it has its groan-worthy parts, I definitely recommend it for everyone, all races and political affiliations included. Pie in the sky, but Chicago needs to do something drastic like that to stop the violence. Hell, everywhere does, from Wilmington, Delaware to where ever. All people have to take action to save these failed communities of color.
