Richmond, Virginia....Richmond, California is essentially a suburb (an impoverished, violent suburb, but a suburb nonetheless of the larger cities of its region), while Richmond, Virginia is a medium sized, self supporting city...

"Sex abuse" is up 106%
Robbery is up 28%
Assault w/ dangerous weapon is up 1%

The homicide closure rate rose to a peak of 95% in 2011 and has been dropping quickly since.
Because the MPD was manipulating the numbers... It was never that high. They got busted then had to adjust the number... That's why the rate dropped quickly...
Here what they were doing :

Let us say 2011 had 82 murders... What they will do is that when they close a murder that happened let say in 2006, they will add it to the 2011 closure rate... So a lot of those 95% closure rate was for murders that happened before 2011 but got solved in 2011

But the cop in DC are basically concentrated in a small fraction of the city while in NYC, you will see cops even in the most isolated place of the city... And quite frankly, I will feel more secure... way more secure if I see police cars/officers. One of the reason I never felt unsafe in Jamaica queens, Harlem and Bushwick (Brooklyn) at night (past midnight and alone)

It really shows the state of Upstate NY when a tiny small town has the same amount of murders as a world class city
