I think there are really only two seasons, spring and winter.
But, one thing that took a while to get over(?) when I first got
here was the trust people have of thier neighbors. One of the
jobs I took as a stopgap measure until I found a job in my field
(which never happened) was temporary drivers helper for UPS
during the Christmas season. I couldnt get over that people had
garages and front doors unlocked and told the UPS driver just to
open doors and put the item inside. Everything was unlocked !!
I would open garage doors as per customer instruction and there
would be expensive bicycles, a canoe, and other expensive stuff
and the door is unlocked !! I was told just to walk in peoples houses
to put something on a particular table ! Coming from where I did in
PA this was just too bizarre for me to comprehend ! Im used to it now
and rarely lock my doors, a habit I am going to have to break when
we relocate. If I ever become independantly wealthy I would relocate
back here just for that, alone .
We seem to have passed right by Spring, at least here in Burlington...in the daytime. I think we nearly hit 80f today. Although it's cool enough at night to want to nearly close the windows.

Spring has yet to come, For I see no buds on the trees yet. OK some but very few. Hit 85 here yesterday, but without flowers and buds on the trees, it just don't seem right. Guildhall has the grass in the fields all green , but the tree's are bare.

Today the trees around my way really started to show some green. About time. If we get showers tomorrow I think it will really get going. Hiked up the Monroe trail and Dean Trail this afternnoon to get to Montclair Glen on the Long Trail south of Camel's Hump. Very warm, but at about 2,700 feet in elevation there was well over a foot or more of snow. A few high elevation beaver ponds had hundreds of frogs active and it was interesting to watch frogs moving across the snow to get to the water.

Nice, encouraging info in these posts.

Kinda counters the negative stuff about the high cost of living and the inadequate salaries.

I'll be up to visit soon. I'm rearranging my work schedule so I can come up pretty much when I want to. Only big problem is the need to board my diabetic cat when I am away. Expense and guilt!

Yes, this thread was definitely a good Idea. Wish it was thought of sooner.

Yes, this thread is very good. Especially with the two week stretch of good weather we have been having it reaffirms one of the top reasons for living here. Just read also that we are not expecting any major issues with gypsy moths this year which is good news as the destruction to the forest canopy can be devastating. I guess they are chewing up quite a section of NJ right now.

I read an article that said one of the things that will happen with Global Warming is, Fall Foliage will dissapear. What a depressing thought. Has anyone seen any kind of weather changes in Vermont due to Global Warming right now? Does it rain more or less than normal, it is getting warmer or colder, etc....

When I lived in Vermont not only did I not lock my doors but I never even brought my car keys into the house. I just put them under the driver's seat and went in the house. When I moved away this was a hard habit to break!
