Default Smoke-free casino in Prince George’s County would be MGM Resorts International’s first

When I first saw this article, I thought to myself wow they must have ran out of things to report. Its an interesting article and made me realize that the smoking ban is not as widespread as I had thought.

Hi, all! I've read/scanned most of the threads on National Harbor. We recently toured the townhouses at Potomac Overlook and really liked them. Went for a walk around National Harbor and had dinner at Thai Pavilion. Hadn't been to the area for several years, and of course noticed a huge change from when nothing much was there aside from the Gaylord.

We currently live in a 100 year old rowhouse in DC and are growing a bit tired of the maintenance, the trash on the street, the drug and panhandling activity around our home, the rats, and the damage to our cars from parking on the street. Those two car garages at PO are awfully attractive! In general, we're a nearly-middle-aged couple with no kids and I think we're just growing weary of the whole DC thing and are exploring life in a close-in burb.

Does anyone live in Potomac Overlook or even one of the other residences at National Harbor? How do you enjoy it? We've never been the "fake town" types, but there's something to be said for the newness and cleanliness of it all.

Do you feel far removed from everything, or within easy access?

Any thoughts on whether a purchase there is a sound investment? How about the area overall? Is there anything nearby, or do you have to travel to DC or a burb for shopping/entertainment/dining (aside from that in NH)?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Default Few New Shops at the Harbor

I was looking on NH's website and they have a couple of new stores opening
  • GNC
  • Occasions and
  • Hymalayan Art Gallery
  • Brookstone (already open)

Nothing to really wow anyone but with GNC and Brookstone it does show that they are evolving into shops that are more practical for day to day and the residents that live and shop there. They are also reopening Potomac ,Gourmet Market as well as the opening a location for The Redstone Grill. I also think that, as Tanger builds its base( and MGM is secured, a lot of the retail vacancies will disappear. Now if they could only land a few large scale businesses to round out the mix. Either way, the next two years should be an interesting cycle for the Harbor.

I can't speak to quality of life there but that neighborhood (PO) is selling out quickly so there has got to be something of a draw there. I like that community and the construction is high quality. I would think that it would feel a little remote since its in a suburban area that was historically considered a part of the rural tier. There aren't a lot of dining and shopping options in the adjoining neighborhoods but expect that to change over the next 3 to 5 years as some of these other projects come on board (the soonest being Tanger Outlets). In the meantime you have Alexandria, Waldorf, Fort Washington (for parks, golf course, recreation centers) and of course DC. My suggestion to you would be to spend sometime driving around the areas outside of NH to see if it is something you feel comfortable with. I live in Fort Washington and love the area for the most part.

Where is the Redstone Grill suppose to be at? Is there arrival date associated with it?
