Nice. 4th time and 15 years later is a charm?

Ha. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the 4th time is not only a charm but will be better than what was envisioned in the prior 3 failed plans. I think the hotel being approved and moving forward is what makes this plan a little more likely to happen. Sounds like the hotel is centerpiece and catalyst for a whole lot of future activity.

But, until shovels hit dirt I won't believe it...

A lot of dirt has already been moved for the Univ. of Maryland hotel. David Hillman, the hotel's developer, has also purchased the Koon's Ford site hotel project, as he believes a second nicer hotel is needed, too. While the second hotel will likely not be a Marriott Courtyards hotel, it should be something that is comparable.

Was there a medical building behind that Koons Ford site?

Yes, the apartment project approved for a two acre site (4700 Berwyn House Road) behind the Koon's Ford site had been sold off to an apartment developer earlier this year.

So, is the Courtyard Marriott out? That's a nice hotel. One of the more expensive in the Marriott mid-market chain hotel. David Hillman's hotel projects have all been luxury. I wonder what he has planned to replace the Courtyard Marriott. I drove by there today wondering when they were going to break ground. That project was approved last year. Did JBG not like the idea of a luxury hotel being down the street? I was hoping they would have been able to break ground before the fall semester. It is kind of embarrassing still to have so many empty sites along Rt. 1. The more cranes the better at this point.
