Texas will have to contract a national grid to avoid getting caught again like this. The state's demand is too much for them to keep up with. The smart thing to do for people would be to have a gas heat to avoid relying on electricity use. When I had no electricity for a whole week, I was able to cook and enjoy hot shower every night.

Sounds very third world.

There is some truth in that. At one time there was 15,000 EVs in NYC.

No. It’s first world Libertarian policy. Go buy a generator or let your insurance company pay for the plumber to fix your burst pipes and jet off to Cancun.

There’s a ton of money in hydrocarbons. The big money is going to fight EV mandates in places like Texas. Doesn’t matter if Houston gets wiped out a couple times per decade from climate change-induced hurricanes and flooding. My gasoline engine is my right.

You replace defective cells not the whole battery.

There’s also a ton of redundancy in the battery array. A friend of mine does charging and extended life algorithms for a battery startup with production in China.

But what is burnt will be as clean as can be. And poisonous fumes are then away from our lungs.

When EV batteries are at the end of their life their is lots of use left in them. In Germany they use banks of used Smart Car batteries as grid storage banks. They come in at peak times to support the electrical grid, eliminating fossil fuel peaker stations.

Here, it’s acid rain from big coal plants that kills trees in other downwind states. It’s not just lungs. It also is pretty rough on the paint job on cars.
