And another part of the problem is those coming after that attempt at reformation have perpetuated/imitated the same systemic and organisational errors/transgressions/mistakes
The first churches were communes of people who worked and shared what they had as they supposedly lived what Jesus taught and spread their beliefs to others. No one was wearing a big silly hat and sitting on a gaudy chair lording over others. "Communion" was the shared meal, not a cracker and a sip of wine that could only be eaten by those deemed acceptable to receive it after a designated party said some words over it. Nobody had a compilation of 66 books divvied up into chapters and verses that they ruminated over.
That was ALL the work of men.
LOL....I love how you posted this. But I do agree.
It broke itself off when it got into bed with secular power structures and took on the practices of those power structures. It did make an effort to right itself after the Reformation, but it was too little too late.
Why then did Jesus tell the people to obey the (corrupted) leaders who sat in Moses chair ? (Matthew 23:2,3)

The exact scripture:
Quote:
Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses. Therefore, whatever they tell you, do and [a]comply with it all, but do not do [b]as they do; for they say things and do not do them.
Very easy to misinterpret as there seems to be a very specific message being portrayed here.
Example: if a religious leader, who is standing at the altar with nice-looking robes on, says "feed the poor", Jesus would want us to feed the poor but He would not want us to stand at the altar with the fancy robes on giving commands.
Is that REALLY what you think Jesus was saying here? Oy vey.
It helps to picture Jesus as having a sense of humor and to "hear" his words in that perspective. "Ya better listen to them, but don't DO what THEY do".

That’s taken entirely out of context. But men do that often and then try to build institutions out of that false context. And when gullible people won’t study for themselves they are led astray because they believed a lie.

Yes it was the work of men. The work of men who were changed by the Holy Spirit and had regenerated Hearts. The Spirit of the Living God working through these Men who sacrificed everything to Follow Christ.
These Men had a tremendous Faith. They had no Bible, no atm card,no tv, no cell phone, no car, no airplane to travel. Yet they had the Spirit of the Living God in their new Hearts and transformed the World.
They also had Love for their Fellows. Tremendous Love and many were martyred for their Faith in Christ. Everyone should read Foxes Book of Martyrs and read what the early church suffered. Millions were slaughtered for their Faith in Christ.

Yes, it's almost dang near comical how people whine finding themselves in results of not having listened to those whom the Lord has sent.
