That’s taken entirely out of context. But men do that often and then try to build institutions out of that false context. And when gullible people won’t study for themselves they are led astray because they believed a lie.
Perhaps you can explain why Jesus still told the people to do what they say?
Basically means if the one sent by Jesus says something, you have to listen to them. The verse does not state any other action except to listen.
and Matthew 23:3 says to practice/do (ποιήσατε (poiēsate)) AND to observe (τηρεῖτε (tēreite)) everything they tell you. That's more than just listening, right?

Yes. So what is your point?
Your response is to Mightyqueen whose post referred to the Catholic church leaders. Are you implying that we need to listen to the leaders of the Catholic church?

Jesus makes it pretty clear that we are to listen (and do) to those whom He has sent.

Question for you and maybe you can help me out... what happens if there are church leaders from different denominations (Catholic, Lutheran-MS, Lutheran-ELCA, Baptist, Mormon, Methodist, etc.) who all say "listen to what WE say. everything the OTHER people say is wrong."
who would you listen to? These church leaders were sent by Jesus, right? At least that is what we are taught. They preach the word of God.

But there is timing at work as well
The reformation was the time where ‘the people’ were freed - to be in charge of their own part in the administration
‘they’ were not to do what had happened for the 1000 years which was being the lords and masters to those under them, or enemies to their own brethren ‘they’ were to be parents and teachers of children and brethren to each other
The reformation is part of the dismantling/refinement process of organisational Christianity
Burning up the works that are perishable and leaving the good works that are to remain
We need to differentiate between the lesser individual/personal children of God from the greater public/administration/organisational duties and responsibilities
The Pope is an individual person and is ordained within the organisational- we need to separate/distinguish the 2 parts from each other
The Pope has his own household and he has inherited a position above his own brethren by his ordination and being the Bishop of Rome
Personally it doesn’t matter to me if the Pope is called Father, or if there are priests called father, or pastors in charge of different types of congregations or elders in charge of other types of congregations
All are ‘part’ of Christianity and are divided by a design at a much higher level than the personal where I am
I didn’t choose to be part of Christianity, I was born into it and I responded at a personal level and that took me away from the organisation I was born into
Yes, it's almost dang near comical how people whine finding themselves in results of not having listened to those whom the Lord has sent.
I am confused. Jesus was talking about his nemeses, the local religious leaders, in that passage, not Christian church leaders. He was playing a game there. He was telling them to do what they say to do according to the (Jewish) law, but not to do what they actually do.

How did Jesus himself identify those who needed to be listened to in that covenant (hint - Mat 23:2) that HE would fulfil, prior to the new & everlasting covenant?
