Major societal issues that need to be addressed by the government?
Welfare, school system....who runs those ? These are factors. And indirectly, our government supports ideologies like BLM which are against the "nuclear family" which is probably the number one reason of these societal issues. DA's that are soft on crime. Policies that are meant to stop the school to prison pipeline but backfire. Yeah, these are all under the umbrella of government.
Sounds like you should stay out of Detroit, then? <shrug>
What's there to do in Detroit anyway except gamble and eat at a coney island?
Yeah yeah, it gentrified a bit. It's still lacking. And Democrats need to be ashamed of themselves, allowing your constituents to live like that. Driving around that craphole of a city, and seeing the homes in that state, city services like garbage collection lacking, at one point they couldn't even keep the street lights on. If you saw a kid playing naked in a garbage pile, you'd call social services. That's basically what Democrats have done to Detroit.
But anyways, Michigan continues to vote in Democrats. Why, I don't know, the only thing that makes sense is that they're dumb.
I was hoping that quasi-Hitler Whitmer, who ordered you around like dogs, would at least inspire some semblance of self respect and kick her to the curb. But alas, I was wrong.
And that just seems like the wrong thing to suggest. I'd much rather see Detroit cleaned up. Get these people help, try and break the cycle.
I miss going to Detroit, I love the DIA, and Eastern Market, but will not go down there until I see things changed.
I'd like to see Detroit improve, too. Doesn't keep me away, though. If anything it motivates me to go more often. That poster isn't interested in improving Detroit, just kvetching about it from another state. I won't waste time with that.
We were just down in the Cass Corridor a couple of weeks ago, had some lunch, visited Third Man Records (Jack White's record pressing plant and storefront), etc.
Tell me you don't spend any time in Detroit, without saying you don't spend any time in Detroit.
Maybe if there was something interesting to do there, I'd spend more time. But that's on Democrats to make it a thriving city instead of 95% falling apart homes, 5% "entertainment district" with casinos and coney islands and like 2-3 blocks of "Greektown".

Great for you. That is a cool place. That area is awesome, the little pizza joint micro brewery right acrros from there is great.
When LEO's that have worked down there for years tell us, if you don't have to go don't, I tend to listen to them. Chances are nothing will happen, but it's those stupid things that will get you. A flat tire in the wrong place, fender bender, vehicle getting stolen, a carjacking or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time when the bullets start flying. I'll pass. I'll stick to Rochester, Romeo, and Washington.
