I think the writers miss the point that with two alternatives staring them in the face economically Ukraine's decision to throw in their lot with the West is probably the best. In today's global economy if it was a truism that states are interdependent with each other it is happening now. At this time Ukraine is being shattered internally due to outside interference. Better to have that 'breadbasket' oriented West rather than to Putin's coffers. He'll have his price as well. There are no freebies in Central Europe now.
Could you elaborate on just who they are? Were they conscripted? I never found much information about them.
