This was nothing but a grab, and I guarantee not one single Ukrainian outside of Petro's cronies will see a single cent form these sales. Also, what a great time to sell, when the worth of the industries are at their lowest. The West of course was after this all along, of course it did not go exactly as planned because the West really wanted east Ukraine as it is the most valuable and the grand prize. So, anyone going to come on here and seriously defend this one?
Of course the West, after they purchase Ukraine, wants the war to end in any way possible, just so their purchases will go up in value. If it takes Ukraine letting go of the east completely, so be it. Once Ukraine sells its industries to the West and takes out massive loans, Ukraine will effectively be ran by the West for the purpose of the West, just like those backwards African nations have been for decades. If Petro does not toe the line, the West will just replace him.
Anyone seen this 45min doc on cable? Wow, just awesome! So many interviews with all major players, Obama, Biden, rebels, Ukrainian army, Lavrov, etc. but Putin.
The man really risked his life to shoot the footage, and how he got those people to talk is impressive. So, if it's on youTube, or cable, or DVD, just get it, watch it, and be learned.
There's a lot of news in recent days about the US military declaring Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea the new Axis of Evil. Terrorism, or insurgencies, has been given a back seat, not surprising since the US, NATO, and GCC are behind much of it.
In recent news; a stand-off between the nationalists ( yeah, the ones that don't exist in Ukraine) and the government forces; this time around - in the Western part of the country.
Whatever. I don't care. But the Right Sector is planning to call its mad dogs serving Kiev's government off of Donbass from what I've heard. That's the only good thing about it.
Mustafa Nayyem, a Ukrainian MP and investigative journalist who arrived on the scene on Saturday, said the violence was prompted by dispute over control of the contraband cigarette trade. Citing local residents, Mr Nayyem said "all sides in the conflict" had been involved in a profitable cigarette smuggling business that sees between three and five lorries pass through the region's border crossings en route to Germany and Italy each week.
Canadian embassy used as safe haven during Ukraine uprising, investigation finds
Some allies say incident means Canada was an active participant in regime change
It appears PS might be preparing to seize power in western Ukraine first, declare an independent Galician republic under its control, and then move on Kiev. This follows the pattern of the Maidan revolution/revolt in 2014, when nationalist, anti-Yanukovich, anti-Russian elements began to rally in Lviv, threaten secession from Ukraine, and then moved to Kiev and the Maidan. The radicals among them then organized self-defense forces for the Maidan and worked closely or actually joined Right Sector.
Fighting over control of cigarette smuggling in west Ukraine?
For all the talk about fighting for "freedom" and "democracy", this whole war looks like a conflict between gangsters as to who will be the next Al Capone or Lucky Luciano.
