and number two - the whole stalin issue is rather controversial in russia, and not because of "putin" - it's rather the other way around. The authorities are rather concerned that stalin's popularity is growing, because it's a message that general population is sending to putin and his government. ( meaning a hint that stalin was a statesman, but not a corrupt official.)
Also can you explain why the Jehovah’s Witnesses are banned in Russia, and its members refuse to go to any war, but the Church of Satan is allowed in Russia?

The problem of Jehovah’s Witnesses is that they actively propagate their religion. They walk around a flats and houses, communicate with old people. Scammers use this.

Ekho Moskvy radio host Tatyana Felgenhauer was attacked by a Russian-Israeli citizen, who is believed to have mental health issues, on Monday this week.
The attack followed a program on state television in which Felgenhauer was branded as a traitor who cooperated with Western NGOs. Russia should be very wealthy with its resources and educated people and instead it survives somewhere in the range of a upper middle African standard of living.
I think Max says what we need to hear. He lives there, he's native. We westerners can argue semantics all we like but we're not Russians. I think that if Russians really felt the need they would do something about the situation. We in the west need to keep in mind the opposite side if things. Russians leave the country, that's true. Many return and far more stay. Russia is building a much more capable army, true but NATO has spread into the Baltics and has plans to extend beyond. Why not have Russia join NATO?

Stalin was the product of his time. He did what he could. He was able to save the country, he won in the Great War. I doubt that he could have achieved this by other means at the time.
Yeah, Russia would have lost the war for sure if not for Stalin purging his army, sending millions to their deaths and supporting Germany for the first 21 months of the war, helping them build their army and dividing eastern Europe.

I'm not quite sure about that. I think that Russia/USSR won despite Stalin. I think there is a reason why the USSR lost so many people in that war and that's because of Stalin. If he had listened to his generals and informants, and didn't create an environment where people felt that saying something that Stalin didn't want to hear it would be off to the gulags, then many lives would've been saved. the USSR had one of the strongest air forces right before the war and the Germans destroyed it in a "surprise" attack, an attack that was seen a mile away, but Stalin was to stubborn to see it. Then it took several years to bring back the soviet military up to par with what it was at the beginning. Furthermore Stalin refused to have his troops retreat, and many lives were wasted. Russia has one huge advantage that allows them ample room to retreat, that's how the Russians beat napoleon, but Stalin refused to use that advantage. Saying that Stalin was a product of his time and that it couldn't be done any other way is just something Russians say to make them feel better. You don't see Germans defending Hitler and the Nazis, so why should Russians defend Stalin?
