A woman should have whatever length she feels comfortable with. And for me that is long hair. I've always had it except for the times I went to a salon and they chopped it against my wishes.

I find it MUCH easier to deal with and I can cut it myself. I also like the fact that I can change up the style depending upon my mood (and the time I have). Ponytail one day, straight another, curled, scrunched, half up half down.

And for the OP......most of us "older" women that have long hair are not doing it to try and look like a college girl My youngest is in college and my oldest is almost 30. I have no desire to try and look their age. My daughter can attest to that

Yeah, the notion that an older woman should cut her hair should go die in a fire. What a load of bunk, older men certainly don't have some rules on what they're "supposed" to do or not do so why should we?

My daughters bf even commented once that he thinks I have some nice flowing hair

there was a post couple years ago someone saying all women over 40 should cut their hair real short because long hair was only for young ladies. What a bunch of bull.

Probably was a man, but that is a pretty common belief, sadly. Not just men though, I can't tell you how many times women my age or older have tried to "steer" me to getting a shorter haircut, it drives me nuts!!

It took me years to grow my hair out. Sure it may be a pain sometimes but i wouldnt trade it for anything. Just something about having long hair that makes me feel better about myself.

Part of it for the high schoolers is a lack of time for styling. Long hair is easy, which is a boon for girls like my daughter, who get up at 5:15. A ponytail is about all she can handle at that time of morning. Plus, girls her age love to play with each other's hair, and long hair offers plenty of options for doing so. It's a bonding thing. She'll often come home with a fancy braid or bun one of her friends created during a break or on the bus.

Shorter haircuts like pixies the the o/p mentioned cost more to maintain as you need to get it trimmed out every 6 weeks and we all know what women's salons charge.
Longer hair you can go longer and some talented girls can even trim their own.

If you have thick curly hair, keeping it longer helps to relax the curl, the weight of the hair pulling the curl out.

Honestly why do people even care..I say go with what works for you

Yes thank you kate I wonder how many women don't realize this and go and chop it off and then wonder what in the world is going on ...and wonder why they are spending so much on maintenance.
