I only travel out to Henderson maybe once a year, at most. So last Monday, me and my roommate decided to check out their thrift stores. At the Salvation Army, while rifling thru books, I ran into a Military Vet who was also looking for books, and on Monday, Military Vets get a discount.

I tipped him off to the basement of the Clark County Library (Maryland/Flamingo) with 2 rooms of used books, $1 for hardbacks.

"Isn't that a dangerous part of town?" he asked.

I was so blown away by his response, I got tongue-tied! I couldn't believe what I was hearing!!!

Sheesh! Broad daylight, Maryland and Flamingo?

It really makes me wonder how conservative Hendersonians view those of us who live in inner city neighborhoods (me, East Central). Do they think it's too unsafe to walk in our neighborhoods, day or night, we're constantly getting robbed, assaulted on the streets, our homes being invaded frequently?

Overall, Henderson gives me the creeps! And their vicious police force, alone, keeps me from going to Henderson anymore than necessary!

I've never felt unsafe anywhere around my house even at 3am.

The same way people think NLV is all bad. I lived by Craig ad Decatur, and then Ann and Simmons. I never had a problem

There are some spots in ELV and NLV that I wouldn't walk around at night, but in the rest of those areas I would.

Same goes for Summerlin and Henderson. There's sketchy areas everywhere.

I do not know of anywhere in either Summerlin or the NW where I would not walk at night.

There is a range of over 1000 to 1 in crime rates by zip code. The big ones are all toward the central city or the east side.

There are of course quite safe neighborhoods on the east side...but there are awful ones also. The biggest east side problem is schools...not crime.

Every time I hear of a murder in pristine, safest place to live in the Valley, Henderson, I can't help myself, can't help it but slap my face hard to keep a smile from growing!

Murder and other violent crimes occur everywhere. However the rate of violent crime...which correlates to how likely you are to be a victim...varies by very large factors.

Good Henderson is close to a 1000 times safer than bad Las Vegas. The murder rate in Henderson is minuscule in comparison to LV. Facts of life.

What really defines the NW is subjective in my opinion

Take a walk along Cheyenne between Rainbow and Rancho and see how that feels? I don't think that's a particularly good area at all especially around Michael Way, that area is a slum, and Rancho is bad from Bonanza all the way to Lone Mountain, almost like another Boulder Highway but with less low grade casinos

Anywhere north of Lake Mead and west of Rainbow would be "good NW"

Personal opinion

The NW is more Centennial Hill, Providence, 89143, 89129, 89149. If you get into the south end of 89108 it gets a little more sketchy but is still safer by a factor of 50 or more from Fremont and Eastern.

Don't forget 89130 either....Lived there from 2010-12, it borders 89149....Great area as well. I believe Centennial Starts in 89130 as well
