No government help? I am not saying that I know you nor that my life is better. It just sounds like "things" don't add up!
what things dont add up too you, government doesnt help everyone and I am not going on wellfare, dont know what problem you have with someone wanting to make more to help his family.
You can't live on $40k a year? I thought it was cheap to live there? You say your house was 1982 (If I remember right) you bought it 4-5 yrs ago. So, I say you paid $80k for your house? Cheap house payment! About $800 a month. You couldn't make it

$40k a yr in NC, claiming married, no other exemptions or deductions earns you at a bi-weekly rate 1168.81 x 2 = $2337.62 per month
Unless there is other money coming in - this would barely cover the cost of elec, water, phone and food
They might have a little more. Unless my math is "fuzzy" I get $40k div by 12 is $3,333 a month. Divide that by two and it is $1666 bi-weekly rate. We are not sure if the $40k is a gross or net. Having kids I am sure not much is deducted. So, one check is gone to house payment and the other is available. She probably spends $500 on groceries? We eat out a lot, so, I am not 100% sure what she would spend. Which leaves $1166. $300 on utilities bills, now she has $866 a month left. If her kids get SSI, that could bring it back up another $600 a month and she is back at $1466 a month left over. Am I wrong?
I looked at the post and it said he made $3333 a month - I do not know what state this is, if there is no state income tax, that makes a $1000 a month difference...I was assuming it was in NC at $40k a yr, the figures just didn't add up but hey, if some can make it on that money and own a home with a $1400 a month - more power to them, I know I couldn't
We will probably rent first, need great schools, I have a special needs child so schools are first. My husband is staying with a freind in AJ and he loves the schools, but i havent done much research on them, mostly Queen Creek and Chandler and east mesa.
Has your husband driven down main street there ? You might as well be downtown Phoenix on Van Buren.

Check into Noah Webster Charter school for your special needs child. I've heard good things.It's a Charter school it's free or put them in Gilbert.
Check for homes in the Superstition Springs area for rent. I can give you some if you'd like. How much do you want to pay?

All I did was calculate the $40k flat as a married person in NC - that was the amount I noted to take home..
