Yes, long live the land line!

And pay as you go is a bargain.

Ooh! I'm just the opposite ... I'm a ham for attention on my birthday and celebrate mine with a gusto! After all ... I'm the first firecracker on July 3rd

Next year I will be better, this year I'm alone. Birthdays alone are no fun.

Been there and I agree that birthdays are better spent with others ... What I usually do is treat myself to something (Disneyland, day at the spa or some other thing that I can enjoy alone).

The day I arrived in Seattle for my first job after I graduated college was my 22nd birthday. I had a completely empty apartment, a beater car loaded with everything I could fit that I drove across the country, and not a single acquaintance within 500 miles. I went downtown to a nice steakhouse, ordered a beer and a steak and sat there for 2 hours savoring. When I told the waiter that it was my birthday and I had only arrived in town a few hours ago, he gave me my $50 meal for FREE. I tried to tip him twice and he refused.

Then I went to a thrift store on my way back to my apartment and treated myself to a $10 tv and played some xbox. Good thing I got that meal for free or I wouldn't have been able to afford the tv since I was BROKE. Not bad for a 22nd birthday I suppose

Cottage cheese that sits still is best.

Yes, that can be lousy. Worse time to be alone in my experience is when you're sick.

Totally agree with you 100% ... I've been dealing with a knee muscle strain mostly alone for the past 2 weeks and it's hard when there is no one to reheat your heating pad or to rub medicine to soothe your muscles.

Why do people always assume that being Americanized means you're not "authentic" anymore? Why is Americanized seen as a "bad thing"?

Please clarify what you mean by "Americanized" (we all have different definition of it). I'm Americanized, but I am still culturally bounded. I am independent, but my family comes first (after the Church). I am still family-oriented (something that I will always, always value) and from a collective culture. I eat McDonalds and other stuff, but I still cook and eat traditional food. I may not be deeply rooted into my culture, but I still value some important things about it. What's wrong with that?
