Interestingly lady - she was marketed as "The Venezualan Volcano" by Hollywood but was actually of Arapaho (Native American) descent, born in Cheyenne Wyoming and passed away in Phoenix in 2004 from Alzheimer's. She did a lot of work for local charities. Wallace did a pretty funny impersonation of her on his show.
When I was in Junior High School (Kino) I washed the windows of their home to help raise money so I could go to music camp in Flagstaff. I even did ironing for neighbors.

Aquanetta used to do the Jack Ross car commercials at the KPHO studio near the Westward Ho. I lived in the area and I'll tell you, when Aquanetta drove down the street to the studio you could spot her from a block away because of her striking features and makeup.

I used to see her a lot in the 90's eating at Home Town Buffet in Scottsdale, formerly Caf' Casino. I stopped and chatted with her sometimes and the staff knew her well. She was always very gracious.

I live a few blocks from both Home Town as well as the (now empty) Jack Ross Mercury dealership.

[quote=azgardener;2645250]I forgot to mention the trampoline place on Scottsdale Rd. just N of where the 202 is now. The one on the E. side of the road small and seedy, very few rules. If you brought a cute date you could jump for hours. Later on a more respectable place on the W' side of the road and a little bit further S. opened with go carts too. Both are gone now.[/quote

I went to the trampoline place once, I was impressed that the trampolines were set into the ground so if you fell off you landed on a mat at the same level instead of breaking your neck. There was also a spaghetti place just north, something of a dive, that actually had Chuck Berry performing there for the price of a cheap dinner. The year was about 1971, long before his comeback.

Default 43rd Ave & Bethany

I grew up right near 43rd Ave & Bethany (on Marlette )

They just tore down The Arabian Room (& the rest of that strip mall) and those 2 little farmers shacks that were just west of it -this had all been there since at least 1962. Remember Diamond D?

I could talk for days about that area.

West Plaza park / St Louis the King / Barcelona / The old Totimer farm/ The 7-11 / Stingers Lounge/ McCagnos Meats /The Esso gas station on Maryland/ Clip Joint Barber Shop - Mr Shillington was the barber - I went to high school with his son Mark at Alhambra .Heck when we moved there in March of 1960, 43rd Ave was a 2 lane dirt road with an open canal on the west running on forever with a massive stand of Euculyptis (?) trees going in both directions as far as you could see. Everything west was farmland until you got over to "downtown" Glendale and the old Beet Factory. Heres a pic of it and another of 47th Ave & Glendale circa 1968
