More middle class have lost homes then those who can afford too buy the larger homes. I know so many friends who are middle class, that bought beyond the scope of what they can afford, do you know how many people i know who have done this,
You do not buy a home ever that you cannot afford to keep, that is just crazy.
Someone is nuts on here, you don't buy a home based on what someone else has, where did you get that notion from.
It is the people that don't have money that buy beyond their means, and guess what poor souls, then they lose their homes.
Done the small house living, been there done that, if it is for you so be it, i love my biggggggggggggg house, everything about it, and guess what my mortgage is probably less then what most of you spent in rent money.
Better get after me now, for owning 2 other homes. Guess what, they are on the big side too, damn me i guess.

Your welcome to clean my house whever you like! Kind of hard to get here after all your coming from another PLANET NO DOUBT. Most likely the Red Planet.
After living on that Planet, your more then delusional.
You have seen nothing but Red!~
Not me. I dream of owning a very efficient, solar and wind powered home totalling less than 800 square feet. Just trying to find the land and sell my 1584 square foot home to take the equity and live nearly mortgage freeeee!

Our house is big. A old remolded farm house.
We use GEO for heating and cooling.
We keep it 72 degrees summer and winter.
It is very cheap to run however, expensive to install.
Big Homes are for people who have inferiority complexes and feel they must keep up with the Jonses.
I rather a 2000 Sq Ft apartment on the Upper West Side then a 5000 Sq Ft McMansion in ****sville USA.
I would have a hard time running a drilling business from there.
