Unions are corrupt socialist parasites that suck off the hard labor of others. The only thing they are good for is spending your union dues on their socialist agendas that any true American would vehemently oppose. They have absolutely no interest in helping anyone other than themselves.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion no matter how outrageous it is such as yours, but this claim of yours to know what and who is a true American is very ridiculous to say the least, it smacks of elitism.

Without Unions your children would be making 6 cents a ton pulling klunkers at one of Mr Massey's mines
Talk about agenda, the new Georgia anti immigrant bill leaves Georgia 11,000 pickers short. When people come in for their unemployment the state can tell them to go pick veggies for minimum wage or their unemployment is gone
I think vets get too much preferencial treatment when it comes to government hiring. I spent 2 years trying to get an entry level federal job, and some job listings I was competing against 10,000 other applicants. Some of those jobs had minimum scores of over 100, meaning it's absolutely impossible for a civilian to get them (only military vets can score over 100). Most of the other scores were 96-100, which meant vets were still the most likely to get them.
People with Ph.Ds and 10-20 years of experience are getting turned down for vets who don't meet nearly the same qualifications.
I've basically given up trying to get in the federal government, because unless you have 1) connections 2) lots and lots of experience and/or 3) are a military vet, it's too hard to get a federal job.
Fiyero, these are very good points about how vet preference discriminates against non-preference applicants. I have worked as an HR Specialist for about 8 years in the federal government now, and I have never seen it as difficult for non-preference applicants to get hired as it currently is. Under the new Category Ranking system, 10 point preference vets automatically float to the top of the cert lists as long as they are somewhere in the top two categories. You usually have three categories labeled as qualified (NOR scores in the 70-79 range), well-qualified (80-89) range, and best-qualified (90-100 range). This means that a 10 point preference vet can score an 80 and float up to the top of the best qualified category, and beat out EVERY non-preference applicant in this category, even if they have NOR scores of 100. Every single 10 point preference applicant will get considered over every non-preference applicant as long as the 10 point preference applicant scores at least an 80, and is placed in the well-qualified category. As you can see, it is virtually impossible for a non-preference applicant to get hired from an external vacancy announcement these days.

How can you call it "discrimination"???In essence a veteran.IE...........experienced GOVERNMENT worker.......should have preference over someone with no experience. That is exactly how it works in the private sector.
This morning on the news they mentioned a special job fair for vets only.
I believe for many public service jobs you get points added on to your test score for military service.
I think there was a time when we had the draft and young people did not have a choice but to be drafted into the military it was fair.
But does that still hold true in today’s world where we have an all voluntary army.
Absolutely NOT.
They join the military of their own volition.
Many/most times it's because they can't get job skills on the outside.
I'm sick of their entitlement mentality.
After 20 years they get free medical for the rest of their lives; full retirement (at age 38); during they get free educational opportunities; they get free housing and utilities.
Nope, make your own way in the world.
You're a vet, not special.

They put their lives on the line for our country, but they don't deserve a special job fair? Or a few points on a test score?
They volunteer for the military.
When have they put their lives on the line for this country? For corporate interests and political gain, but not for this country.
I'm well aware of the law, glitch. So are the employers of the Reservists I work with who lay them off a week after coming off of mobilization orders. Nice isn't it? That's Right-to-Work for you. You get to fire at will. I'm not making this up. It happens all the time.
This is absolutely illegal and there is a law in place to remedy that.
That said (and my thread in Military Life was deleted as trolling), even if the person was going to be fired, if they're a reservist and were about to get fired, the employer still can't fire them.
I'm not sure what your getting at here, but if those in the military would go on strike and stand up to DC and say, no, we refuse to fight these useless wars anymore and put down their guns, THEN I'd be more than happy to see preferential hiring, as I would see I was hiring a person of conviction and character.
They can, and do. They don't re-enlist.
They join the military knowing wages, benefits, risks.
It's all about personal choices.
